That SKS is from the "I" block of the Letter Series. It was made 4 years or more after the Russians started chrome lining barrels.

Does anyone know what the cause is of the discoloration on the cover? I have the same year all matching in laminate with the same discoloration pattern.

The discoloration is caused by the heat treating of the metal. The center band is left softer for stamping. Take a look at the underside of one that has the factory and date stamp sometime, and you'll see what I mean.

Ask me I picked those out I might have an answer.
Ok discoloration is caused by the way those were stored . When it is in a case it is stored the same way it is transported. Top cower is where one part that touches the wood in a box for many years. I guess chemical reaction of cosmo and wood causes that.

I rescued some stainless piano hinge from a boat seat that I just threw out. Now I know what my next project is. TY!

    Hey Al,
You may know the answer to this: why EZ bayonet doesn’t have the golden color the Tula has?

Please excuse the clarity of the images, my 18 month old Son "aka Mr. Hands" has been randomly pushing buttons on the camera and still trying to fix it!

1954 Tula, no refurb markings at all, looks really nice and as Alex stated most likely never fired. Minor mark on a part of the stock a little more than a slightly deeper finger nail indent, and I mean that's it.

Other than that, this old girl looks like she rolled out of the factory yesterday not 58 years ago.

Might leave this one (Or the next one ha ha)) in the Cosmo and put it in the safe for my Son.

    When's the next batch!?
