    Using gift credit cards

We've had a number of people trying to order lately with gift cards/pre paid credit cards and debit/credit cards.

Our processing systems won't take them.

You need to use an actual VISA, Mastercard or AMEX.

    Thank you

couldn't we just call the order in and give you the numbers.

Most of those cards they sell, need to be activated and your actual shipping address used to register it. At which point you put in Gift Card as the name, or your own depending on the brand. The rest is just Exp Date and PPN and it should work.

Most Gift Card BIN ranges are restricted to magstripe entry only. This is to prevent the guy who sells the prepaid cards (salesperson/attendant fraud is RAMPANT these days) from snagging the number and trying to input it manually on a different POS terminal after it's been activated. I work in the POS industry (at one of the Big Oil majors), and you would be shocked at the amount of credit card fraud that's going on... chip/PIN (EMV) cards will reduce that amount to almost zero, which is why the chip cards are being mandated.

Haha yeah but this time it's true. It's not possible to duplicate the contents of the chip. Also, each transaction uses unique 'keys' from the transactions itself (date, time, invoice number, etc.) as part of the 128bit encryption algorithm. Even if there was a way to 'snag' the information during a single transaction, you'd never be able to re-use it. Rest assured if you use your chip card somewhere during a transaction, it's not possible to 'skim' that data.

My chip credit card has been cancelled twice due to fraud, my old one never had an issue.

You can still enter a chip card # manually which makes the chip useless.

I understand how they work. Most decently designed cryptosystems do not fail due to their theory, but the implementation.

Can a person mail the pre-paid Visa Gift card to you so you can swipe it, to be applied to a transaction that is greater than the card value ?

Like if I bought $100 worth of stuff & sent you a $50 PPGC, would you be willing to apply it to the purchase ?

    Just curious...
