    can 7.62x51 be shot in .308 chamber?

    I think it's supposed to be ok?

    Yes, but apparently not .308 in a 7.62X51 chamber.

    Although very similar to the military 7.62x51mm NATO specifications, the .308 cartridge is not identical and there are special considerations that may apply when mixing these cartridges with 7.62x51mm NATO, and .308 WIN chambered arms.[5] Their interchange is, however, considered safe by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI).

    My 700P is the most accurate when shooting 762x51 as opposed to 308 winny , never was an issue till the Internet came along

    They're almost the same... Loaded diffren't thicker vs thinner brass... Most firearms can do both you just have to check it.

    They have a thicker case which can be hard on your ejector, but otherwise... yes.
