I remember when the were no FAC, POL, or Pal.
Beer was 5 bucks a two-four.
.303 rifles were $29.99, and Win. 94's were $99.99, at Sears.
Only bull moose tags were sold, and to any one in Ontario, that wanted one.
There were no earwigs, rats, racoons, deer and coyotes, north of North Bay.
Epp's had racks of rifles from floor to ceiling, that could be handled unobtructed, by the customers.
There were "men's rooms", with no "skirts' allowed. Beer- fifty cents a stubby-Black Label, O'Keeke. Draft-2 bits a glass.

I wore steel toe doc-Mar tens to high school and wasn't suspended from school for wearing weapons on my feet.
I made a gun stock in my wood working class in high school and wasn't arrested or expelled
Pistol cross bows were sold with the same restrictions as pellet guns, you had to be 16
My new Polish M44 was $100
I could go to the store as 9 year old kid and buy a pack of smokes for my mom or dad.
My parents complained about gas going up from $0.299 to $0.300 a liter and you had regular, unleaded and premium
My uncle started drinking a new beer, Olson Golden
My mom trying beer for the first time (she liked mixed drinks prior)...a new beer called John Lab bat Classic
OV in a styrofoam insulated Stubby bottle
1969 fire bird that my mom bought my dad for a wedding anniversary, New for $2700
Pulling 5 lake trout a day out of the water legally
Riding in the car a a small child with no car seat required
What's a bike helmet? Oh, its for motor cycles.
What's an M class licence?
Full licence could be obtained at 16 + 2 weeks for $30
You could leave your home unlocked and the keys in your car and everything would still be there when you returned
What's a cell phone? Is that like a car phone? Or a military pack phone?
Satalite TV required a 30' dish

MASH was NOT a rerun neither was Magnum PI or Hawai 50

a home computer had only 4k of memory, and only guys like Bill Gates had them
I could go with my friend and his dad to shoot trap at the PUBLIC Cold Creek conservation area, and .22 on the covered rifle range... in Nobleton Ontario
The news only talked about guns in relation to putting game on the dinner table, or the war in another country and never glorified nor vilified them, but treated them as obvious and necessary tools.

Well, I'm still a pup by comparison to some, but the first tank of gas I ever paid for with my own money was 50 cents a litre. The clerk at the hardware store would sell a twelve year old a box of shells or a knife or hatchet if he knew your dad, and they still had a rack of used shotguns next to the pocket knives. I was fascinated by the ones held together with electrical tape for some reason.
And I miss 25 cent draft at lunch the first time I went to community college.....
