Well I decided to add a revolver to my collection. I have it narrowed down to a ruger super blackhawk stainless 4.62" or a S&W 627 5".
I know they are totally different actions and calibers !
I eventually want both in my collection 1-2 years down the road !
Only have enough $ for 1.
Let the voting begin !!!

I would add pics but cannot up load from my phone sorry.

+1 on S&W all the way.

Of course the one that fits you trumps all else and the only way to know is to shoot both.

The 627 has changed my shooting forever. It has given me that self-esteem "boost" when I need it. Especially after I shoot a gun that I am not so good with yet. Bahaha. No question about it, my 627 doesn't even compare to my Ruger Gp100 in every single way. BTW, if you do go for the S&W first, I would guess that there would be a 70% chance that you buy another S&W such as the Model 29 or 629 in .44 magnum. Heck, you might go all the way to a Stealth Hunter. If you can afford it, buy the best that you can at the time you are deciding. Otherwise, you'll be losing money down the road selling off your initial purchase just to get what you really want. S&W 627PC all the way is my vote, that way you are guaranteed no regrets!

I'd love a 27 with a traditional 5" barrel. one of the classic 357s. Too bad they don't make them anymore. Wish they did a run of 627s like that.

I have never handled a Black hawk before (although a freind of mine in competition shooting uses one for it...) I have bought 1 S&W which lead me to soon after buy another 2....

S&W have great triggers, good resale, and are well built. In my mind Rugers are great for 22s.... (I can't really get past that I guess...)

Both excellent guns. I would suggest handling both if possible. Might boil down to feel. The black hawk has a Colt SAA feel where the Smith has a more "modern" feel. Both are well made with great fit and finish. Ruger is built like a tank, but that is not to say the Smith will give you problems. I've got both and love them equally for different reasons. It all boils down to personal preference and intended purpose. If you reload, and can hunt with a handgun, a Ruger can handle hotter loads with out fear of damage. With my black hawks, I can juice up my 45 colts to 44 mag specs. And my 44 mags, I can run real hot. Just one more thing to consider. Also, the Ruger is single action with 6 shots, the Smith is single/double with 8.

let's be fair- forget the sbh and go REDHAWK- or anything that's double- action- I've owned both and the redhawk is far superior than the old crank and turn- the trigger may be better on the sbh, but you'll cuss and swear when it comes to reloads- I did- now the question is do you want something that will eventually go out of time or do you want to step up to full house 44 mag loads- remember, smiths are delicate in the timing and trigger- that's why they feel so good- maybe not so good with a few thousand rounds down the pipe
