OK, so I lost the key for my 30-06 Trigger lock

I lost the key for my hunting rifle, it's a Master trigger lock, is there any way to get it opened or am I SOL? If the mods dont like discussing how to do this, then just ignore this thread, thanks.
 
A Master trigger lock uses a spring loaded notched pad. If you can push this back, the lock will release. You don't mention the type of rifle. Can the trigger guard be removed? If so, it is easy to trip the lock from the inside. If you don't mind scrapping the lock, just drill out the key cylinder.

X2, takes about 30-45 seconds, if you have friends who know your in metal work, it's amazing how many show up with red faces to get them removed.

My record is 3 seconds for the fellow who brought a winchester 94. Wish I could have taken a picture when I pulled the lever down and took the lock off:rolleyes:
 
Those master locks are a joke, you can get them open with a small-ish blade screwdriver in most cases. Just push the spring loaded pad mentioned above so that it releases the teeth on the spindle. Takes less than a minute to get 'em off
 
Can be a good money maker - take it in the back room, slip the lock, make some noise, wait a bit, walk out and hand it over, write up the bill.
 
If you don't have a key, drill it out and throw it away. No sense on trying to do it any other way... the lock is useless without a key.. if you have more guns and locks, sell the all locks and buy new ones that are all keyed the same... then you will have a bunch of keys all the same... Don't store all the keys in the same place and you should be okay in the future...
 
After you get the lock off, throw it away and buy a combo lock. It costs a few dollars more, but you never end up at the range without your key.

All my trigger locks are combo...3 digits..easy to remember

Hahah...the problem is remembering all the damn number to a series of locks. :p Espcially with a memory like mine.

Or you could set them all the same. Maybe 308 would be easy for you to remember:p
 
freon in the key hole a punch and a hammer, or like everyone else suggested drill out the tumbler
if you dont have a drill or drill bit give me a pm i have both and would gladly remove it for a party size bag of m&m's *peanut not plain*
 
Don't know if it's true or not, but while talking to the guy at the local gun shop, I mentioned that I had a few trigger locks I wanted to use but had lost the keys for. He said that he had a whole box full of keys and I could go thru them to find one that works. According to him, they keep reusing the same key designs over and over.
 
its true just like ignition keys to most vehicles
i have about 4 differnt key rings of car keys that if i tried i could get into and start at least 1 vehicle on a lot

Hmmmm, I'll have to try making up a nylon blade/shim, won't scratch the trigger gaurd, even faster, never tried that way before......
