Just heard about this. The MSRP appears to be very reasonable at $719... I really hope the make a Canada Legal version as it currently comes with a 104mm barrel according to the info sheets below.

looks good, basically a thinly veiled ppq, but better imo because there is no protruding threaded barrel.

...ok so just read measurements and looks like canada will have to get a Pinocchio version to make it legal. here is hoping it is like the p99 not ppq.

104mm??? Jerks =(

Looks nice, though, kinda like a P99/HK45 cross.

Initial FRT will go by manufacturer specification and will be prohibited as with P7s. Then if one get measured by Canadian standards from the breach it will be 105.6mm, there will be additional restricted FRT dash number added, again like with the P7 series.

Its not a clean sheet design but essentially a P30 adapted to striker, that has both advantages and disadvantages.

Cool, didn't know that. The MSRP is what gets me excited...

H&K has finally caught up to Glock. Perhaps they are tired of being overlooked and seeing contract after contract go to the Austrians or to S&W.

Yes HK has decided to market this one at a lower price point, although Im pretty sure production costs are very close to P30 if not identical. They knew they could not compete with Glock at a higher price point and used the P30 as a starting point of the design to save on R&D costs associated with a new pistols. The VP9 is essentially a P30 minus hammer assembly.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The P30 with LEM at it's current price point is a great gun.....but at $400 cheaper?!?!?!

If they go the same route as they have been with other H&K's, the Canadian version will be the tactical with a threaded barrel. Which of course will bring the price up.

There are some downsides to beginning with a P30 and not a clean sheet. The grip and overall design could have been more efficient. Starting with a P30 dictated general layout designed around a hammer, hammer strut and spring assembly. If it was a clean sheet, it could have had a lower bore axis and thinner grip (no hammer and strut to design around) and the pistol would be smaller/shorter. Before someone says that bore axis makes little difference in shooting... I somewhat agree to that point, but I do prefer to shoot pistol with lower bore as they have less muzzle flip, different recoil impulse but more importantly.... The resulting pistol could be more compact, shorter in overall height even though it would have the same size grip, its a more efficient design making better use of space. Size is always important in a pistol as its a compromised weapon based on size. A smaller pistol with the same length grip is a big win, so its not only for shooting that lower bore axis is important.

Unfortunately adapting strikers to hammer fired pistols is here to stay as manufacturers try to stretch their R&D dollars. Sig did so recently as well by adapting the P250 to a striker and bringing out the P320. Although I think the H&K execution is much better, and more completely integrated compared to Sigs half assed attempt.

Looks like they hired a guy who used to work for Walther, trigger will still suck, and parts will cost a fortune. On the bright side, it'll be ten years before RNicholls gets off their collective fat @sses and breaks a sweat doing the paperwork to get us some for ourselves, they won't however bring in mags or spares..

Actually the trigger should be the redeeming feature of the gun. It has very little stacking, smooth pull with no increase in weight during the initial take up to the crisp 5.4# break and a short 3mm reset. This is done with a fully cocked striker (not partially pre-cocked like Glock) that essentially makes this a safe SAO trigger. You could not do this with a hammer fired pistol, as its not "fashionably acceptable" to carry a cocked hammer with no manual safety. This is an SAO trigger with an artificially long take up against a spring for safety. Very similar in concept to the LEM (cocked SA internal hammer half, and a decocked external hammer half) but with shorter 6mm stoke and a 3mm reset, compared to the 14mm stroke and 7mm reset on LEM and DA/SA P30.

It uses P30 mags, reliability will be the usual HK so spare parts are not an issue and can always order them from USA. I agree FN Sports are a pain in the ass but we are stuck with them. Maybe IRUN will bring them in via USA.

As much as I love the look and feel of the HK p30, the trigger and price have kept me away. This is tempting, should they ever get it to Canada in a legal barrel, but I think I'll hold out for a PPQ M2 with 5" barrel and longer slide. It will cost about the same, and the PPQ trigger is the best there is.

I have a striker-fired HK already. The P7. If the new HK is as good as the P7 is....

We'll this new HK has a polygonal rifled barrel so it's comparable to a P7 in that regard but unless it's a fixed barrel with a gas piston setup I wouldn't expect the same accuracy.

It's also a $720 USD MSRP so I'd expect this new HK to go for a couple hundred more than what's advertised.
