Why Are Sako Rifles so expensive?

Life is way too short to hunt with an ugly gun. With this said, I would choose a Sako from the early 70's and stop at the dawn of the 75's. Sako guns from this period were the best in the fit and finish department.

ehh, I griped about this too years ago.
now? I wish I'd have bought a few >$3000 guns instead of a safe full of ~$1000 guns.
if you can afford it I don't think you ever regret buying precision/quality - unless its just something to beat up on a quad and slug through the mud.

And while on the topic of Sako's....

Sako A7 worth it?

Life is way too short to wait until you can afford a Sako before you hunt.

Selling whole frozen coyotes by the truckload put many a Sako deluxe and about any other gun that I ever had an itch in my safes.
Life is too short not to have what you want early and often in game.

Life is too short to spend all the good years working. Find other ways to make money besides working for other people!

There's always prostitution, selling drugs and robbery............. :)

Or you can save up by not buying a bunch of other toys or blowing it on booze, cigarettes, etc. I hunted for years with an old Tikka. Still have it, but some nicer ones now after gradually saving and upgrading.

Not too many can run out and buy a $10,000 rig, myself included, but squirrel away $200-$300 a month and it adds up quickly.

Then sell the old stuff on the EE for more than new!

They're expensive because they do a pretty good job on them and they dont have a bunch of uneducated apes on the production floor.

Unlike Remington which will sell you a hunk of crap regardless of what price you pay, doesnt matter if its a 300$ or a 3000$ custom shop, still the same junk model 700.

HA! your right out out of line H:S: there Pal - Rems custom $3000.00 is MUCH better then there $300.00 piece's of S are ! :dancingbanana: RJ

I find lots to do that I enjoy much more than finding ways to get money to give to Sako. Everything I've killed with an old Lee Enfield or a Handi-Rifle is dead. I don't begrudge anyone the pleasure they get from looking at or fondling an expensive rifle and it's good there are such guns for them, but it doesn't do anything for me.

All the guys who can't afford a extra $800 on a gun probably smoke a pack a day. What is the equal now? $12 a day? $360 a month? there you go quit for three months you can buy a sako and buy some ammo.

I can't believe were having a conversation about how one can afford a $1000 cheap gun, but can't afford $1800 amazing gun. I didn't realize $800 was life changing for any gun nutter who has probably 8 $1000 guns. Dumbest conversation I have seen in a long time.

These videos of blowing rifles (One of each, Blaser R-93, Howa 1500, Zoli 1900, Browning A-Bolt, Rem 700, Mannlicher, Sako 85 and Tikka T3) were part of a some "tests" done by a Swedish consumer's publication in 2008. They heavily plugged the barrels to see how / if it would burst. Before that, they submerged the rifles in brine and performed other torture tests. While the Euro (and a Japanese :) ) rifles held together almost perfectly, these tests did not reflect real life conditions. But we still can make our own conclusions.
I read the article when it came out but later I wasn't able to re-locate it on their website.

IIRC The tests were not done by the consumer group, they were done for them by a well respected Swedish arms testing agency. Interesting to say the least.

BTW Benelli does something similar...

Shortly there will no longer be any reason to buy a Sako rifle, because Ruger will soon be shipping stainless American rifles to Canada! :) My sources tell me that even in stainless they'll be far less expensive than Sakos!

If somebody offered me a choice between a well used, but mechanically sound L61R and a brand new Remchester, I know for sure which one I'd pick.

SAKOs are 'so expensive' because they're worth it, or at least they used to be. I haven't had anything to do with those newer than the "A" series. Up until then, they were gems.
