The AR-15 is made non-restricted overnight, what changes happen?

Eh... The guns have to be able to reliably kill polar bears and other hearty creatures. A .223/5.56 is a woefully inadequate cartridge for hunting just about anything, and certainly not for something that may decide you are lunch.[/QUOTE

They should gives them Nemo arms .300winmag AR's, best of both worlds.

Guys have popped them with C7.

Yep. I was in Iqaluit last March (leaving again for Resolute Bay in a couple weeks) I had three rangers attached to my platoon. Guess what, one had a .223 bolt action rifle, one had a British built (Fazakerly if I recall correctly) No.4 Lee-Enfield, and the other had a Norinco M305. They had all killed multiple polar bears in the past with their respective rifles. When I asked the one with the .223 how many shots it took he shrugged and said : ''One bullet to the head usually does it.''

And a long standing world record Grizzly bear was shot with a single-shot .22 Short pistol. Seeing as someone has popped a Grizzly with one of those, it is surely more than adequate for the Rangers. There is a reason why they were issued Lee Enfield and that reason is the powerful cartridge and brainless reliability of the design, and of course the cost and availability. As long as you don't let the thing go to rust, if will accurately fire thousands of rounds between cleaning and last many lifetimes in the frozen arctic. I doubt a C7 would last a month before it was ditched and the good old LE was hauled out of the closet.

Well you're wrong. Imagine that.

if this did come to pass there would be an abundance of NR ar15 at competitive prices but the ammo shortage would hit it's peak and prices for 223/5.56 ammunition would be astronomically high rendering the classification change a complete pain in the rectum. I could be wrong.

I could strap it on my back and do community work such as picking up garbage roadside to piss off anti gun citizens....

not going to happen

With attitudes like yours nothing will change for the better.

As firearms owners we first need to believe that anything is possible, then work together for positive change in Canada's firearms laws...

I'm not actually as bad as I seem… obviously, I hope for the very, very best for all of us.
I have sent all my letters and phone calls, I'm just not terribly optimistic.

Well I commend you for sending in some letters and making calls, we need more people like yourself to do just that. Making our politicians aware that as responsible firearms owners we have a large and committed community wanting to change our Canadian firearms laws is the first step to change.
Now think positive and optimism is yours for the taking, because if we as shooters don't believe the laws can change for the better then who will?

Thanks bro… Some good points there, hope you're having a great weekend.
We will continue to fight the good fight!!

The first thing that would change would be every tactical bobo with a 2" AR barrel scrambling to buy a 18.5" or longer barrel or barreled upper along with every other person scrambling to try to find a longer barrel so they could go shoot their rifle in the woods. The shortage/sold out websites will be almost instant.

And then me strolling out into the woods whistling the same day with my 20" A1 AR15 to go shoot paper :D lolol

In all seriousness though, nothing changes. Just that I can finally go shoot my favorite rifle at paper targets on crown land much more frequently and score one more point toward common sense/logical firearms laws in general in this country.

Wow… Yes, to take the AR out and do some groundhog hunting or whatever would be incredible!!

well if it wasnt restricted, I would buy a quality ar15 and use it at the shooting range, and on the farm, and for hunting, etc.

Now it's more like a safe queen.
