Hey you beauties. Gimme you're thoughts on different types of 1911. Kimber's that i've handled are gold, colts are real nice. Did not like the ruger as much.

Just give me some input on whats you're favourite and what works the best...... have at er

Nighthawk custom is the best I've had my hands on, Ed brown special forces was equally nice. My everyday shooters and beaters are a couple Springfield trp's (operator & armoury kote), most of my colts are vintage and only take certain ones out for the occasional Sunday drive. With all the threads on 1911's on this site most people are happy with their norc's up to Ed browns, nighthawks ect... The 1911 platform is amazing, 103 years and still going strong

You didn't like the Ruger? 'SWMBO' has a SR1911, she's put ~800 rounds through it and it just keeps getting better as it breaks-in. I can't STAND the trigger myself, the pull is delightful but the trigger itself has stippling on the front that feels like it would be right at home mining coal - but other than that, it's a hey of a good 1911 for the money, and a new trigger would be cheap.

Her other observation on the matter - she looked down her nose at the Norinco and especially the High Point, right up until she actually shot them. The Norinco was very nice, and she liked and shot the High Point the best of any .45 she's used.

So try a lot of pistols ( - if you can actually find them somewhere in Canada where you can try them  ), take your time and enjoy yourself!

Yeah thats the beauty of 1911's, there are customizable to the last bit.
People will give you inputs, they will range between 300$ to 3000$.
Myself, am a fan of STI. Frame fitting and barrel fitting tolerances are really tight.
And from there i fully customize them to my liking, at least STI gives you a propper frame and barrel to start a build with, at a reasonable price.
Want something out of the box? Something to build up? Plink for fun? Compete IPSC/IDPA/PPC? Self defence carry type (i know but hey you might be a rare guy that has an ATC for what its worth)
Always depends what you wanna do and what you are doing it for, this will also decide on caliber for you too.

The best ' value ' atm seem to be the SAM's. Just a bit more than the norcs but you get your money's worth in terms of the step up in fit and finish.

After that you're into the Smith/Sig/STI price point. You can't really go wrong with any of them, it's just a question of how lucky you get that yours is a 9.2 or a 9.8.

Next you're into the semi custom range with Smith Performance Center, the higher end Sig's, the Baer's ect. I'll throw in Dlask at this point to. This is where you want or need to be in the ' guaranteed ' 9.6-9.9 territory and don't want to have to tweak or tune small details. It should be done by the factory as part of the package. Not cheap, but normally because of the volume you should get more than what you paid for compared to shopping it out to a 'smith.

Last but not least is EE. Keep your eyes open and some nice bargains pop up from time to time. Guys get disappointed that they shoot just as crappy with a $1500 dollar gun as they did with their Norc and dump them at a loss.

Sig Sauer, isn't it obvious?

Personally, having owned lots of semi custom 1911's from Valtros 1998A1, Springfield CS Pro operator to an Ed Brown Exc. Target, the one still in the safe and I have no intent of selling it at all is my Les Baer Custom Prowler III.

Here's a review:

I'll second this and support it by the fact that my Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special has been a LAZER to shoot, build quality is flawless..so much that the good folks at Les Baer will be putting together a Boss 302 model for me in the near future.

You already own one (or two) Custom Nighthawk if I'm not mistaken so right there you've got the absolute top of line, king of the hill 1911 that doesn't run $10,000. I don't think you'd be taking a step down in with a Baer, but you have to give credit where it's due, and NH know what they're doing!

What 1911 to get....

The current thing about the 1911 is there are so many different choices nowadays. It's a very personal decision.

Big question is, what do you want it for? Competition? Casual plinking? Standing in front of the mirror doing your best Robert De Niro "You talkin' to me?"

What's the budget? What features do you want in your 1911? What features do you not want?

With the benefit of a ~ 30 yr 1911 love affair hind sight if I was just wading into the 1911 pool for the first time I might go with one of the SAM models.

Then go from there. ;)

I have an STI spartan and it's alot of gun for the price but my favorite is my Sig 1911 target. Fit, finish, function and accuracy top notch. Some may not like the external extractor look but it works...

Every kimber I shot seemed to be real nice. Everyone that I know that has one has said they are very good.

can someone chime in on them?

Lots of features at a low price.

The savings is in workmanship! Well, also materials.

For quality, basic 1911s I like Colts and mid-priced Springfields.

For mid grade stuff I think the Baers are great bang for the buck.

For the upper end of factory guns I like Wilson and NHC.
