 I got my 9, but am so undecided about what handgun I am going to get my 40 in. Can everyone chime in and tell me what is their best and why. I would really like if possible ,opinions from people who have tried several brands and have opinions on everything they tried. I understand it will still come down to me, but your history could tell me things I would not find out from a dealer. Thanks for your time, greatly appreciated !

When I shoot my M&P40, it's my favorite. Then when I shoot my Sig P226 with the SRT kit installed, _it_ is my favorite.

I don't think it's a matter of the caliber/cartridge...it's the gun itself. What do you have now, and what sort of pistol do you want to get?

My 9 is a Ruger SR9, I love the feel, the trigger is great, fit and finish is great and I have always lucked out with Ruger. For my 40, I was thinking M&P, XDM, Taurus 24/7 G2, Walther and / or a Steyr M40-1A. I am open to striker or hammer, would prefer it to be as ambidextrous as possible, as both my kids are lefties , and would prefer a lower bore axis. I personally don't like the looks of a Glock at all. Everything I have researched on the Sig 226, while it is a very popular in the 9, says the bore axis is one of the highest which helps produce a very snappy recoil in the 40. So hearing what people go through hopefully narrows it down a bit.

My G20 with a Lone Wolf .40 conversion barrel.

Shoots softly like a 9; probably because the recoil spring is tuned for 10mm loads so the .40 is easier to handle.

Sig P226 TAC-OPS in .40 cal

This beauty comes with night sights, a beaver tale, and the SRT trigger (short reset trigger) - it just doesn't get better than that.

Fav pistol in .40 S&W

My "go to" is a 2nd gen Glock 22.

Also have a restricted G23 , a Colt Delta fitted with a .40 S&W barrel and a BHP in .40 S&W, too.

For me it came down to a P226 or an M&P. I bought the M&P because I wanted my first handgun now and not in a couple months when I had the money saved for a P226. That and the M&P range kit for ~$650 is hard to beat. I also used to religiously clean it after each range trip, i stopped after i had 1500 rounds through it, i've gone another 1000 or so without cleaning it and it's still going strong. Been shooting Winclean through it though, not the dirty western ammunition bulk stuff i had been buying.

I really like my M&P40...comfortable to shoot, accurate, and I even like the trigger pull. I've got a G22 coming my way shortly...I'll have to see how it stacks up.

I've had a CZ75, Sig 226 and H&K USP in .40.

Kept the USP and sold the rest. USP is soft shooting and feels great. The other pistols had better triggers, but the USP felt the best to me and it's on my 'do not sell list'. If I was in competition I'd have to work on the long DA trigger on the USP. Everyone who's tried my USP has loved it... great pistols.

Delta Elite with a 40 barrel is my favorite closely followed by my Browning Hi Power. I also have a Baby Eagle and a SAM Omega 6.
I still want a S&W 610!

Love the full house 10mm but I'd still prefer a 625 or vintage 25-2 in .45 ACP over a 610 in 10mm.

Supposed it depends on what became available first though...lol... ;) :p

You didn't really say what you want to use it for. I am not a great 40 expert but in general the 40 has significant recoil. Personally unless you are recoil tolerant I would stay away from the modern plastic guns. They are too light for the 40. I have a Sig 226 in 9mm and based on this I would also avoid the Sig due to the high bore axis. Works great in 9 but probably significant muzzle flip in 40. I have a heavy CZ TS target gun in 40 which shoot very well but it is big and heavy.
