best 20 gauge semi? whats a best buy for going used?

I have a sx3 20ga also and only time it fails was on that cheap fed and Winchester 100 round packs...other then that it shoots everything down to 3/4 oz hand loads to mag duck loads.

Pick up an older Rem 1100... they are one of my favorite guns to this day... should find a good one for around $400-450.

For an older gun , the 20ga auto-5 is the best hands down. For a newer gun , the 391 beretta is the best. I have both and there on my never sell list. Both are pricey used but worth every penny.I shoot 3/4 oz in both totally reliably. This is just my opinion and i'm no expert.

My wife has an old Beretta AL390, and I can find nothing bad to say about the 390/391's. The only loads her 390 has trouble with are the low-recoil, sub 1000fps target loads; but most people will never shoot those, and if you are running those through a semi, you are likely doing it with someone new, and only loading 1 at a time anyways.

We paid $900 for hers a few years ago. A new A400 can be had for $1400, so getting an older version for $1000 is not uncommon.

Keep hearing how the 1100 needs to be kept clean and its a jam master. True/fals?

False! I have had several 1100 20 gauges... I can run three flats through them at a weekend shoot without doing any cleaning... I always clean my guns after a shoot though... I don't ever remember jamming any target loads. I will echo the praise for the Beretta 391... I have no experience with it in 20 gauge, but my son and I both shoot 391 sporting 12 gauges... and they are fine guns... on a budget, though I still think an older 1100 is your best bet... even over the Auto 5... and I like the A5.

I picked up a 20 gauge Turkish made Weatherby SA-08 with synthetic stock, new for $500. Inexpensive and it's shot a couple of hundred shells to date without issues. The design is based on the Benelli shotguns.

Have a Beretta 391 Sporting in 20 gauge that's been a great gun with zero issues in the years that I've had it. Great all around gun.

Have a B2000 in 20 gauge that is a neat gun and also been totally reliable. Little scarce to come by but with a 26" barrel and modified choke a good all around gun for the field and informal clays.

Most mentioned are good guns but the sx3 by far the best on the market today also best $ value . Check out the Doveanator on you tube . Not a gun mentioned stand up to the punishment those 4 sx3's went through

Any proof to this or just your own opinion???

Because I will put a Benelli up against a Winchester any day of the week.

I also have a couple choke tubed 1100 sporting 20ga that work flawless and would not count them out
I find 90% of the issues with any semi can be directly connected to who owns them and how they take care of them
Cheers

I was thinking about the 1100 as well and wondering how many thousands of rounds have been fired through one on a skeet field.

SX3 is a nice gun for sure, but I certainly wouldn't crown it king of anything.

If your shooting Doves or Crows using the light target loads is not really worth the effort in that the lighter recoil and load will not kill the birds with authority.
You want a Hunting gun with Hunting Loads so the recoil will be positive and quick.
I had a Browning gold 20gauge and after 30 rounds of Sporting Clay action she became a single shot gun at the best of times(cheap win/fed) But, she liked the Remington STS and that was hard to come by.
Clean the gun, use good rubber seals and you are Golden when you buy a Remington 1100.
