Here's the story;

Last Friday, I ordered a NEW CZ Canvasback over under shotgun from P&D. Donna took my order and I was very impressed with the speed at which my order was processed. I received it in the mail on Thursday and went out to shoot some skeet on Friday after work. The first couple shells fired as advertised but then the gun would misfire randomly from both barrels no matter which barrel was selected to fire first. I tried 2 types of ammo and the primer was not indented when it would not fire. I noticed that the trigger pull felt as it the safety was on and the trigger was skipping over the sear.

I called P&D the next day and they referred me to Dlask who does the warranty work for CZ. He told me that the gun failed when new and it had to go back to P&D who would then get a credit from the distributer. Soooo back to P&D who contacted the distributer and in turn said I had to ship it from PEI to BC for warranty work. It bothers me that not only is this all on my nickel, but Dlask says they have had a CZ there for over a year waiting for parts.
I wish I would have just bought a Baikal!

Here is the email thread...

Dave see comments below.

Chris
I just spoke to Joe at Dlask Firearms. He misunderstood the conversation with the customer yesterday.
The shotgun needs to be returned to Dlask and he will make whatever repairs need to be made under
warranty.

Donna, I just spoke with DLask in BC and he told me that "the gun is considered unserviceable out of the box and needs to be sent back to you and then in turn to your wholesaler." To make it easy, I can ship it wherever you and Big Rock mutually decide. Then that leaves me with a requirement to replace the gun. And does that leave me out of hand for shipping 2 possibly 3 times ( if you sell me a second gun)?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Dave

Thanks Donna,

I was hoping that it would have worked as advertised since it was a new gun.

So I should send it to Dlask with a copy of this email?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave. We at P&D are not a Warranty depot. Below is the response from our distributor (BigRock Sports) please give Dlask a call and make arrangements to get the gun to them. Sorry for the inconvenience, let us know if you need any more info.

Chris
Unfortunately there is no good solution to this shotgun issue.
I don't think the warranty depot could be any farther away from this customer.
Would he mail the shotgun to CZ warranty?

Hello Donna,

Thank you for the super fast shipping of the CZ Canvasback over/under 12 guage that I bought on 18 July. It arrived yesterday and I thank you for shipping it so fast! I will recommend you to others.
I had the gun out tonight to do some skeet shooting and the first few shots were fine but then the gun started to misfire randomly from both barrels. Sometimes it fires, other times it goes click and then the second or third time squeezing the trigger will light off the shell. Happens randomly and with either the top or bottom barrel selected to fire first. It is as if the safety is on. The trigger pull feels normal but no boom.
What can I do?
Thank you.

Dave

Unfortunate. I could see this being a warranty issue if this wasn't from day 1, It should be exchanged by retailer/distributor as a factory defect free of charge IMO

IBTL Don't think it was necessary to post everyone's contact info, in a rage - so I don't think this thread is going to last too long.

Your firearm is under warranty, it may cost you money to send it for warranty work but at least it'll be fixed. There were threads on here that were quite negative on CZ's O/U shotguns, especially under heavy skeet shooting conditions where a more expensive example would handle the stress.

It's up to the retailer to make it right. You made a purchase of a defective product they need to take it up with the manufacturer not you. In the meantime they should offer your choice of a full refund or another product.

P&D should offer to exchange or refund the gun. I know they didn't make it defective, but you paid for something working and warranties in Canada are a joke. E-mail CZ USA, they're really quick to reply and they will likely weigh in.

Well, I'm not in a rage, just unhappy by how it was handled. If you buy a product that does not work, you can usually take it back, but it seems that in the case of firearms, this does not apply.
Yes, I am not exactly pleased and as I said I am happy with how quickly the gun was shipped. No problem there. They and the Distributer are just leaving me on the hook to ship an out of the box defective product back to the warranty depot who tells me it will likely be more than a year before I see it again.

This is the case with many products, not just firearms. Ask my brother what he had to do with his Iphone, that he still swears by today. Think he did that ^ 3x before they fixed it/it broke again - until they finally sent him a new unit.

Ship it and wait. You will have to deal with the manufacturer/warranty shop now.

Dude North Sylva charged me 60$ to ship my pistol back to me... after I paid 20$ to ship it to them...

Canadian gun warranty is a joke.

Well if P & D don't make this right, they sure won't sell me anything again.
Faulty from their shelf should be returned by them, not the purchaser.
At least in my humble opinion.

I know your pain, NS charged me $50 a couple of years ago as well to ship a pistol back that they wouldn't warranty after they had it for over a year.
