Hi Team, all the from way over here in NZ- I have finally made the call and purchased a second hand NEA 12.5" carbine. Included in the sale is the NEA "mini-can" suppressor and a Crusader muzzle brake. So here are my queries:
Anyone have any trigger time on the 12.5: bbl NEA's? How is the trigger- will it suffice for casual goat and pig elimination?
Am I good to go out to 200m on medium size game, shooting spire points (will they still expand?)
My next mission is explaining to my wife why and how this purchase was a good and sound economic decision. Any advice appreciated. :rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:
 
I have a 14.5" NEA, but the lowers are most likely the same. The trigger is probably like any stock AR trigger: not bad, but not great either. Especially if you've experienced shooting a Geissele trigger. It would probably suffice for you though.

As for the wife, can't really help you.

As for the 200 yard effectiveness the 12.5" is barrel is not so good for that range but will get the rounds out there no doubt. An 18.5" barrel or ideally 20"+ would be better for that range as a MUCH higher bullet velocity over the 12.5" would be obtained. From what I know, depending on the bullet weight, a 12.5" is quite effective up to 50 yards or so then the lower velocity causes a lot of energy loss.

I regularly and accurately nail 9-10 ring shots (10 cm) targets out to 300 meters using my LMT MK18 Mod 0 and a pair of Daniel Defense Mk18's all with 10.5" barrels using Swiss GP90 or M855 ammo. If you have access to MK262 ammo (77 grain), add another 100 m.

I had one NEA barrelled carbine that could not reliably hit the target at 300, but if you are using a good quality barrel you will have way more than 200 meters reach.

The NEA is an excellent rifle and shoots really nicely. The trigger is great. I have a 12.5" bbl and accuracy is not an issue. Oh, and NEA's customer service is top notch. Ignore the haters.
 
I like my 7.5" NEA little flame thrower. Trigger is stock like other ARs. Fit and Finish good. Got it on sale at a price which I felt was fair for an NEA AR. Probably wouldn't buy it at the regular prices though (just too many options these days for sub-$1000 quality ARs).

So far I'm pretty happy with it. No complaints. I like the angular cut of the upper receiver and the new Gen 2 rail as well.
 
As per the folks that use the MK18's for a living, they have stated rather firmly that the 10.5" barrel's are more than capable 200-300 meter rifles for all kinds of targets. Don't let anyone tell you it's only a 50 yard weapon.

Read the info and articles from the people that use them and then make up your own mind.

You might be able to hit at 300m but your going to get a first round kill, anyone who says different is wrong and has no clue about ballistics. Just because some SF operator says so does not make it right, I've met a few of dumb operators in my time.

Are you willing to take a hit from a 556 from a 10.3" barrel at 300m? No?...didnt think so.

I would say the potential is much lower at distance for a first round kill, yes, but as Sinasta below points out, its still gonna suck and I doubt anyone would be willing to test your claims.

No thanks but if i was on drugs and thought my god was the one and only i could shrug it off :p

Not knocking the shorty AR but it has its limits in combat. But since this is a civi rifle, all is good :)

Now where are the OPs pics of him or ###y bikini girls shooting this NEA!
 
Here is the last warning to everyone who has derailed this thread previously. If you have nothing good to say about a brand, stay away from people who enjoy their new toys. It is extremely rude to rain on people.

We do not care what brand you like or do not like, but if anyone rains on anyone's parade and side track any threads again, infraction will come down fast and furiously.

Good choice of rifle.

I am EXTREMELY biased as I both use and SELL them. However, I sell 6-10 other AR brands as well.

I have seen the NEA rifle grow along the path over the past few years and it has developed into a great, cost effective, accurate and durable firearm. Did it ahve issues? Yup, but so did most manufacturers.

Nea seems ok.

My only issue is the Grey like finish on the guns. Not a pure black that other AR'S have. But sfrc has the 7.5 on sale, at a crazy price. I thought my 10.5 was small till I saw the 7.5

Maybe one day we'll have 5 inch Ar's?

Btw congrats on tour new rifle. I hope new Zealand gun laws are better than canadian ones.

Are you guys allowed to have normal cap magazines?
