Shorten PAL Approval Times

-mailed july 2nd
-received july 8th
-available on web August 1st
-credit card charged August 1st
-called in August 7th in the morning, told one reference needs to call in to complete the process and then it will be sent to Ontario CFO
-reference called in August 7th afternoon
-checked online after reference called in. Application has been processed and license has been issued. should receive within 2 weeks.

It also shows my license number, does this mean I can order something online with this number now?

Pretty much, walk in stores will want to see the card though

I live in BC. Tomorrow will be my 84th day since it showed online !

Really? That sucks big time. Have you called them to check to see if everything is filled out on the application correctly? Have you had your reference(s) call in? I've heard, that if there is some minor piece of information missing your application goes on to a pile where it sits for weeks before someone gets around to sending you a letter saying they need such-and-such piece of information. I've also heard they they will make a single call to your reference and if there is no answer (and they won't leave a message) they put your application in a pile that is ignored until you or your reference calls in.

Do you have a history of interactions with the police? I'm curious as to why some people have massive delays and other people don't? As I posted above, I'm middle aged, with basically no police record and got my first RPAL issued in 31 days, and I'm in BC. Oh, and I live in a small town.

Not that I'm condoning it, but if you're 23 years old with a handful of excessive speeding tickets, the cops have come to your house a few times because of loud parties and you've been stopped and had a couple of joints confiscated (you've been ID'd but not charged with anything) or been caught with open alcohol in public a couple of times and you live in a high crime neighbourhood I can see the application being delayed.

Thank you very much for this thorough sincere advice.

I am a newcomer to BC Canada (one month short of two years). I am a Permanent Resident. I have been living in France for the past 5 years. I already brought a letter of good conduct from the police over there.

I am a middle aged person myself, and their only concern I would think could probably be my origins (Egypt). I won't complain much as I do understand that they want to make sure guns don't end in the wrong hands. Fair enough. I just felt worried it has taken them almost double the time it normally takes.

I called the 9530 around noon time and the lady was very helpful and extremely polite. I hope this would end the wait !

Thanks again for your support :)

I am also sorry that you didn't see it yet. Far from my wishes to turn this into a bashing thread, but it's well known all over not just in Canada. Without going into details, there's 2 different sets of laws/ privileges.

I feel like I have to apologize to you for thinking I got special privileges based on my occupation. If that is true, I can assure you that I never intended it to happen. Furthermore, I never asked for special privileges or did I actively perused such. I never even mentioned my occupation. I just can hope you will not reflect poorly on my person for that. Have a good one and take care Kobs. :D
P.S Sorry for any spelling mistakes. Still struggling with English writing and I am thanking the guy who invented spellcheck every day :)

My timeline for a first time PAL/RPAL application:

Mar 29 - PAL course
Jun 14 - RPAL course (long story for the delay in between...)
Jun 16 - Application sent
Jun 20 - Application received
Jul 16 - Online - initial processing completed & visa charged
Jul 30 - Reference phoned in
Jul 30 - Your application has been processed and your license has been issued!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Five and a half weeks, once my application was received.

Just a quick update... This was a first time application, for an RPAL in BC. 52 DAYS in total - my license arrived in the mail today!!!

It could probably been a bit quicker, had I phoned in sooner, but I was away for a while & didn't bother. That being said, as soon as I did phone in to check on the progress, the very nice lady I spoke to suggested that I have one of my references phone it to speed things along. My reference called in that afternoon & my license was approved no more than an hour later. On Tuesday this week, I phoned to get my LTATT going - even though I only had my license number & not the actual card - and spoke to another extremely nice lady. Less than 24 hours later, my LTATT paperwork was emailed to me.

All in all, it took me longer to get the two courses done, than it took for my application to get processed... Luck of the draw, I guess!!!

And the lovely

" Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued."

has just shown up :)

Congratulations. Calling in seems to be a key factor in getting your application processed quickly.

As to your wait time, I'm speculating here but it may have been caused by them checking with the French Police to confirm the authenticity of your letter and/or checking with Egyptian authorities. Or it could be that since you didn't call in they figured you weren't really interested and didn't care about it that much...

Calling in does seem to help...everywhere in Canada except QC.

I called the CFC today for the third time in as many weeks and was told by all three individuals that QC is the only province in Canada that likes to do things "their way"...big surprise! So the CFC does not do any interviews for RPAL applicants from QC; they just input into the system and send it off to the QC CFO (Sureté du Québec).

So I called the QC CFO and they told me that they will be interviewing myself and both my references, but they will call us, we cannot call in. Last week they told me it should be done in two weeks. I called again this week and they told me it should be done in three weeks. I assume when I call again next week they will tell me it will be done in a month...

Thank you :) ... Exactly. I had these thoughts in my mind, and at times I didn't know whether calling in would serve the purpose or do the opposite ! ... Thankfully I took that "leap of faith" decision. ... I reiterate my appreciation to your advice !

Sprechen sie deutsch NileMan73? :) did you get your PAL or RPAL? Do you have a gun in mind or just starting shopping? Take care and have a good one

So yourself a huge favor.. go to a range and have others show you various firearms and if they let you try them! No firearm is perfect for everyone and that is one insanely good way to find out what fits. Ignore "brand/looks" etc etc.. actually trying them is what matters (and no that does not mean German only designs or non-german only. All can have some excellent points IMO) :p

If you got your LTATT I'm assuming your a member of a club?

Depends on whom you are talking to.. and remember.. club membership is NOT mandated by law nor can "policy" force it.. also technically there is no LTATT or STATT.. by law they are both ATT only. It's simple nomenclature commonly utilized to reference the validity period only.
