Thanks thought I'd snap a pic of my service colt 1911's and the M45A1 is roll marked with stars and USMC. Haven't seen to many up here & now discontinued, if memory serves me correct you have one as well.
That is correct! There's already a couple of Colt M45A1s in this forum. But we never know who else out there buys one who's not into these forums.
The USMC rollmark was discontinues since May 2014, all current productions are now marked "M45A1".
I was latter rollmark was there to bring the the price closer to the MSRP but it still didn't. Maybe in a few months.
I think M45A1 rollmark was also preferable, but the USMC roll marks would be above and would command a higher premium and collectability. To estimate, there could be between 1,000 ~ 1,500 USMC marked M45A1 released commercially.
USMC has ordered Colt to cease the USMC rollmarks. Folks in the other forum where thinking at some point, Colt sold a few USGI Colt M45A1 to civilians. Those ones had a beadblasted barrel hood to reduce glare as compared to a shiny stainless steel barrel of the commercial versions. I saw 3 of them sold. This could be one of the reasons why USMC has to step in.
The S/N format is also interesting on the civilian version. Colt used the same format as those with the issued M45A1's with only the serial number range that separates the USGI to commercial versions.

Interesting, I'd like to get my hands on the M45A1 roll marked variation now, hopefully be a little easier to find.
I thought I would share some pics and specs of the latest build all finished.
Got lots of PM's on the frame/slide'.....
The frame is a Dlask and the slide a Caspian, both are really nice pieces and seem to be made of excellent quality material. Very nice metal to work with
I flat ground the frame for satin finish and then fit everything
Doug Koening ultra light hammer,
STI sear and disconnect, 10-8 trigger bow,
EGW titanium firing pin, VZ grips
Ed brown magwell/MSH combo,
Ed brown grip safety and extended slide release.
Wilson combat ambi safety(still looking for an Ed brown version, the color is off a bit) SV Infinity mag release and button, SV tungsten guide rod, all Wolfe springs.
Wilson ultra match barrel.

Unfinished project - started off as a plain STI trojan off the EE
Need to : find a blended beavertail, Novak´s answer would be my answer to this
Shorten the trigger reset distance once i have shot 1000 rounds down range
Gunsmith for a "black" hard chrome frame and slide, shiny chrome magwell, and possibly 5" bushing-less bull barrel, all of these after 20k+ rounds down range so to get the wear pattern on rails before chroming
Its been dropped in the box, it's IPSC classic legal.
Need to : find a blended beavertail, Novak´s answer would be my answer to this

I have been pleasantly surprised with the STI platform so far.
Finish on it sucks (hence why a refinish planned later on), but all my parts i am ading require minimal fitting.
I have a mix of techwell, SVI, Aftec, Wilson combat, EGW parts and they all fit quite good.
The one that required the most fitting is the trigger, SVI trigger was 20 thou too big! Even now, it's 15 thou taller than the factory STI one, it doesnt wiggle. Factory STI trigger wiggled bad up and down in the trigger guard.

I love that trigger and hammer.
Got my Springfield RO yesterday. I was down to getting the Sig 1911 Match Elite Traditional 9mm or the Springfield RO. I opted for the Springfield based on cost, the frame is a 70 series and the fact I always wanted a Springfield. I already own a Sig 1911. The extra $300. more for the Sig is probably worth it IMHO ie fully dehorned, front strap checkering, front slide serrations and ambi thumb safety.
First thing I did was a full strip and degrease. The mag catch was pretty harsh with some flashing still on it that was making it pretty rough inserting a mag. A few minutes with a Dremel cleaned that up nicely. Mags insert and drop smoothly now. The trigger was a little gritty so I polished the trigger bow with some Fitz and a felt wheel. Much smoother now but still a 5lb trigger. A 17lb hammer spring is on the way and I'll use my spare MSH and replace the existing Springfield ILS MSH.
Those reviews about the RO having sharp edges weren't kidding! I guess that's one area where they saved a lot of money. The RO is one TIGHT fitted gun! There are zero rattles in this thing. Everything locks up solid. One thing I was a little cheezed off at was that a grip bushing on each side of the grip came off when removing the grips.
Looking forward to getting this puppy out to the range to see how she runs.
