Am I crazy?

So I have been pondering my rifle chamberings and the amount of use they get the last couple of days. Specifically my 2 hunting rifles.

They are both Tikka T3's. One is a 243 and the other in 300wsm. In the last 2 years I have not been able to hunt. I have put 10 rounds through the 243 and have not shot the 300 since the day I bought it.

I am considering selling both and buying a 270. Am I crazy? I think that the 270 would do fine for the odd time I might shoot a coyote ( while complying to the calibre size limit of S Ontario) yet still be able to take a moose or black bear.

What are your thoughts?

It would be just for hunting. I have other toys to play with at the range.
 
Others may disagree , but it makes sense to me . The 270 will do what you need it for and it's a lot easier , and cheaper , to shoot well than a 300 WM . If you're not shooting the 300 , there isn't much point in keeping it IMHO
 
I don't think your crazy at all, although owning as many guns as possible rocks, your thinking is sound. If you have not used your 300wsm by now you may not use it realistically. Also .270 is a decent little hunting calibre particularly for deer. I use a 30-06 for all my hooven creature hunting but I know a few guys who use a .270 and they fair well. If you sold your .243 and 300wsm and bought a .270 you could upgrade on the .270 with the extra funds (better model, brand, trigger etc.) or buy lots of high grade ammo to feed her.

Yup, that makes total sense. If you are not going to shoot the rifle, why keep it to collect dust. Sell both and get one all around rifle that works the best for you. 270 will work just fine for that.
 
I used a .270 for years with 150 grain Nosler Partitions for everything from little coastal blacktail deer to elk and moose...these days you might find 140 grain Accubonds will serve you well for everything but also be a bit better ballistically than the Partitions. The .270 is an excellent caliber for anything except the big bears(Kodiak, grizzly, etc..).
 
A 270 would cover just about EVERYTHING here in Canada except maybe large bear and bison.

Good choice, but not very much in the spirit of Gunnut-ism. :)
 
Having just a 270 would be fine IMO, but if the gun is bought and paid for, why not keep it. Unless of course you're going to upgrade your super cub with the money, then I would do that. Lol.
 
A .270 that you know well and practice with will do far more than a .300 WSM and .243 and and and that doesn't get you to the range. I do believe in the one good rifle theory, though I still own many. It is nice using just one chambering, very convenient stocking ammunition and components.
 
I like your thinking. Max for coyote is .225 in NL, MIN FOR MOOSE IS ABOUT .243. Wish one could do it all. Although you can shoot a coyote with larger cal with moose tag, it is illegal once the moose is in the freezer. Go for it.

The way I see it... your centerfire line-up is full of holes... no .22 cal, no 6.5mm, no 7mm, no 8mm, no .338, no .35 cal, no 9.62mm, no .375, no pistols carbines, no .45/70... you have a lot of work to do mister! And now you are talking about getting the one you don't need and getting rid of two that you do need... ur going the wrong way! U need an intervention...
 
.270 is a great caliber and will do the job. But you are crazy selling off the others. A true gunnut would have them all.
