I've been wanting a 686 for a long long time. But I need to get some of your advice and knowledge GGNers.

A local shop has a 686 with 6" barrel for $899. Wanstalls has the Pro Series 686+ with 5 inch barrel for $1019. After taxes etc. the 686+ from Wanstalls is $90 more than the local 686. My problem is I really don't know anything about the Pro Series 686+ and the Smith & Wesson website doesn't help much. Can anyone fill me in on what exactly the difference is between the two other than one is a 6 shot and the other is a 7 shot? Is the 686+ worth the extra $90?

Thanks

4 or 6 inch will depend entirely on your build and ability. I find I'm more accurate with my 4" than m 6" 686.

get a 6 shot, that way more speed loaders are compatible (and you can use it in IPSC!)

Personally, I'd go with the six shot model 6" for $899.

NAA.

I would just strech the budget ( if possible) and get a S&W 627-5 8 times PC, so much more accurate and the trigger is a dream... JP.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your advice.

I went out today and bought the 6 shot 6" barrel. The shop gave it to me for $950 taxes paid (GST & PST add up to 10% here) so I was one happy fellow. My wife was with me when I bought it and she is even excited to shoot it. So I didn't even have to beg for forgiveness when I got home. Sorry for the crappy phone pic.

Great choice (both the gun and the wife - I've had to train mine to get excited about new guns). The 586/686 is an absolute pleasure to shoot.

The 6" - 6 shot is definitely the way to go IMHO. I love mine (especially since I ditched the factory rubber grips for some Round to Square Houge conversions) and it gets lots of range time - although I have to admit some of that time is spent running .38 specials (cost savings).

Congrats! I got to get me one of these noise makers. :)

I really enjoy my 686 in 4.25". I like reloading for it too - 38 SPL and 357. I hope you enjoy your new revolver!

Third one down.

My favorite revolver to shoot. Adjustable weighting system makes full house 357 feel like 38 special.

And the trigger, oh my goodness, the sweet PC trigger....
