i have been for years but had to sell off a bunch for the divorce ....i like to repaint the heavy stuff back to the proper colours as long as there is no original paint left ..i belong on several ammo collectors sites and have met some awesome guys ....presently im working on a 4.5 inch howitzer shell that is in awesome shape the driving band is unfired and complete seems it should be painted yellow with a green stripe ..all i need now is the brass shell casing but the search is part of the fun ...so if you guys collect them post some pics i have all the way from.556 to a Russian 6 inch navy/artillery round which stands almost 6ft tall ....awesome i will post some later this weekend
 
It's funny what you come across in the military and hang onto as a curiosity. Being an eternal packrat I have a 17pdr tk shell as used in the Sherman Firefly, M10 Achilles Tank Destroyer and towed 17pdr anti-tank gun. I also brought home a 20pdr tank shell that I found on the Golan Heights. I think the Jordanians were the only army still using the 20pdr in their Centurion tanks at that time. I also have a 20pdr saluting blank casing as well as a couple of 105mm tk shells that I use as flagpole stands.

On a related theme I have a brass manufacturers plate and the crew commanders turret control from a MkV Centurion tank. Probably my most unusual gee-haw is a K14 gunsight from a P51D Mustang. These were also used in several early 1950s jet fighters incl the F86 Sabre. I also have some other instruments and controls from a Mustang, incl one of the coveted 8 day clocks which were used in many WW2 aircraft. I also have an expended M72 LAW which I fired downrange about 40 yrs ago. I even have a framed data plate from an M135 deuce and a half which I laid down on a mountain road during a winter exercise and which was subsequently PCC'd. My troops presented me with that one as a reminder of the policy that officers should leave the driving to others.:redface:

I thought I was doing well with a 1-pdr Pom-Pom round and a 37mm Hotchkiss Trench Gun round. You could dump them down STENCOLLECTOR's bore by the bucketload!

I'm gonna go hide my head for a while!
 
I used to collect smaller stuff, not much mind you, and even less these days. I now only collect a couple of very specific rounds. I have been trying to offload stuff in recent years, as living in apartments makes it harder to have anything of size. My speciality for a few years was actually collecting cartridge books, but now even more of them need to go.
What sucks is back before Ebay went all soft, you could pick up all kinds of things for dirt cheap prices, especially Warsaw Pact stuff, even 88s (which I at one time wanted) passed through ebay for less than 300$. With Canada post getting twitchier its made buying and selling even harder.
 
I REALLY want to get into shell collecting with a German 88 and a Leo 105 at the top of the list. Would like a dewat (if possible even to get) Carl g round or cement head.

No turrets here (other than on the ranges of course where there are at least 4 untouched that I know of). However, my favorite scrapyard has about 20 barrels for the leopard. They weigh in at about a tonne each though, so if he doesn't have a turret, then it will be hard to support the barrel.
 
Dave from Sudbury had the 40mm AA towed into the Copper Cliff Arena yesterday as usual for the annual Crean Hill Gun Show. The kids love sitting on it and cranking the elevation and traverse wheels.

I know I came across a 105mm artillery projectile somewhere in my travels. It's blue so I know it's a practice round, but I'll probably re-paint it as a HE

You near Edmonton? If so there is a cartridge show in November, there will definitely be some there I would say.
