I had just recently purchased a CSA VZ58 '14 which I've been very happy with, but as with all my rifles, I can't just let them be. After spending a winter modifying my SKS to perform the way I wanted it to, I figured I would make the VZ58 my own as well. Well, I've found out it's easier to go from wood to black, than black to wood.

I was attempting to bring a new tacticool VZ58 back to its roots. Altogether I've spent just over $300 (before shipping) on wood bits and pieces, as well as a parts bag from a CZ858. While they are essentially the same gun, they hold differences, in this case that includes a fairly distant time span.

The first issue I ran into was the need of furniture hardware. I foolishly dropped $200 on a parts kit that seems to have everything but the furniture hardware. Disappointing to say the least, but hey, who knows.. something might break. On the bright side, it did come with four magazines.

That cut the buttstock and pistol grip out of the equation, and as I haven't yet found a wooden upper handguard, all I am left with was the lower handguard.

After a few blows with the rubber mallet, I drove the pin out to find..

..different spec. I could dremel the lips down to match the plastic, but there would be nearly no material left. As it stands, the plastic is a tight fit, and the wood appears to be hopeless.

Would I be better off attempting to build a stock from scratch? Or would anyone know where I could at least track down the proper furniture hardware? As stated, I am also in need of the wooden upper, as well as a castle nut wrench. My funds for this project are getting low, but I may be willing to trade parts from the kit.

I just finished helping my buddy change to wood. What an expensive pain in the azz. I had to spend a lot of time making the wood fit. Seems the new guns are slightly different. I think a lot of people are just finding this out. Its not as easy as 1 2 3. There is work involved.
