.22 ammo!!

I dont feel bad for tbose who missed the bus on m22.
Was 49.99 and is now 65.00
Still under 7¢ a round isnt bad.
Now bulk ammo is the same price as CCI
This price increase is totally profit taking!

It only seems to be getting worse. Walmart has tripled the price of Win. 333 packs, from $9.96 t0 $28.96, in just a few years.
Just under 10 cents a rd., for bulk .22's. Good ol' days are gone.

I was wrong. Took another look at the 222paks, they were in the Fed. 525 slot. Still are and are still not sold.

Bass pro in cross iron has m22 (1000 rds) Winchester for $55 as of this morning... I didn't get any because it gave me lots of trouble last time I had them.

Was at CT in Halifax this AM so had a look, they had Blazers for $3.49 for 50. WTH , I thought and got 6 boxes- when they ran in at the cash came up at $4.49. Bastads. So I made them give me them at the old price. I probably should have got more, no doubt some of the other prices on the shelf were wrong too. That's only 2 cents per round, but about a 30% increase in price. Definitely somebody is gouging.

Back in the spring when I was somewhat low on .22LR, I found Federal in the 525 format (which my firearm really likes). I crunched it out to about $0.06/round after all taxes, shipping, etc, and thought that was a little on the steep side back then when I was paying around $0.04 up to that point. I bought I think it was 15 or 20 packs back then, and I'm glad I did. It sold out a few weeks later, and hasn't been back since at that retailer, and everything comparable is well over the $0.06/round I paid back in the spring. It's not a tonne of .22LR, but it'll keep me plinking for at least a few years on that one order alone.

Guess you didnt read my posts on that!

Yeah, I did, thought this was post-jacking up of prices, but they all seem to have raised the prices. Just hadn't changed the shelf stickers yet. MAKE sure you check the shelf price and compare to what is rung in at cash, they will honour the shelf price if you notice it and tell them so. It seems to be a dynamic process, we are in the midst of one of 2 situations:
1. Canadian Tire has made a huge recent investment in firearms and related items, and a ton of new stock is coming in, and new higher costs are pushing up retail prices.
2 A cross-country conspiracy of every CT store owner to price gouge.
Working in a retail environment, I'm inclined to say #1 is the most likely scenario despite what people may think.

There are alot of CT store that will be carrying firearms soon.
Cochrane and many others since the main two in Alberta started and are doing well.
From what I know, they want to open the market up.
Theyve already started to get their employees PALs.

watching these posts are making me laugh.... Hahahahaha!!! I do agree .22 is way tooooo much money these days.. but at least I don't have to buy any. I have a few cases of it so I'm good.

but I could use some .22 match ammo SK / Lapua.

…this thread is making me consider getting a quality Air Rifle. I'm going to keyboard over to the Airguns section for a look.

I'd be happy to sell some of mine for $65 ;)

Maybe he bought too much M22's or Dynapoint GT's (I doubt you can have too many 22lr at these day and age...or maybe the quality of the ammo were not what he expected...) because he is selling them on EE right now ...trying to make a profit at the same time.

Nobody should stop shooting rimfires and go to air rifles! Then the problem will move from people hoarding .22lr to air rifle pellets will make the price on them go up too!

Seriously, the supply of .22lr has not been able to keep up with demand and the price goes up. The tinfoil hats in the US have maxed their credit cards and now we start to seem ammo coming back into Canada, but at higher prices. Once the buying rush slows, the supply will increase beyond the demand and we'll have normal prices again. Just search for the posts where people are buying up 20-50k rounds of .22lr and sitting on 100k rounds in their cabinet. That just isn't something a normal market can respond to quickly. It will come back to normal eventually once store stocks start growing and people decide that having $10k in rimfire ammo sitting in a cabinet isn't a good idea.

Until then I'm shooting my air rifles where i still get 500 rounds of match ammo for $10.

I bought 26 boxes at CT knowing they raised their prices by 25%
So I saved $232!!!!
Gone are the days of $20-$25 a brick for bulk. Govt added a new tax, shipping costs have gone up and so on.
The new norm is $40+
Maybe I am hording and so are others. However I saved $232. Which is more important, saving money and having a supply or paying a silly amount just to have a brick? Most store have a limit on how much you can buy anyway.

I view ammo as an inflation prone commodity that remains viable for decades if stored properly and grows in value at the same time. I have met a few older shooters, guys that were around for the glory days of cheap milsurp and ammo. Some of these guys still have crates of ammo left. Not one has ever complained that they bought too much, in fact the opposite is said, "I wish I had bought more".

Right now is a good time for things like SKSs and Mosins, not to mention the crates of ammo for them. Think it will last forever?

You might get called a hoarder or worse but if you can afford it and have the space "buy it cheap and stack it deep". I am pretty sure the older shooters I mentioned were thought of as nutjobs or similar in their time.
