Wild boars are back in Eastern Ontario

From what I've seen online... I don't think hunters will be able to cull the boar population unless they open night time hunting for them. These oinkies are smart and will feed at night the moment one escapes after being shot at during the day.

Ottawa has always had a lot of pigs at the trough, usually in a big stone barn with a copper roof that's green.
They are wasteful and destructive and often useless.

I think the New pigs in Ottawa are an improvement.

What would be a ggood calibre to use on these pigs? .233, 7.62x39, 30-30, 7mm mouser, 300wam, 45-70 or aomething else?

I've hunted them in NC with my AR. .223 is fine, provided you do your part. Use something heavier than 55gr if you can, but those will work too. Aim for the throat/neck. It's vitals are ahead of it's front "elbow". If you aim like you would on a deer, you'll just end up gut shooting it.

Can non-residents who go out for coyote on crown land take one? And are you allowed to keep the meat?

Afaik, they are feral pests, not regulated by hunting regs. Shoot all you want and enjoy your bacon.

well i hope you dont (or do) end up like sask has
fresh pics from this very morning.

Maybe time to get the old 1903A3 out to the bush and destroy some of these dirty bastards with the old 180gr Core Lokt's.

Hmmmm

Anyone on here actively getting rid of these things anywhere in Eastern Ontario? I wouldn't mind some feral pest hunting.

You arent gonna do anything even with night hunting...once they are established they are here for good. Watch the movie "Pig Bomb" its really quite informative and shows how these pigs are overtaking every state and province they move into.

So...does anyone in Eastern Ontario want to buddy up for a hunt with me? Haven't hunted pig in 2 years and I'm itching to do it again

I'd be right into this. I'm in Ottawa, but have never seen feral pigs anywhere. Is there any info on where they are ranging?

"Word has just hit the street that the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNRF) Kemptville district is waging war on feral hogs in Eastern Ontario"
"Wild hogs have been reported east of Ottawa in the Plantagenet and Hawkesbury area and have caused havoc in many areas of North America."

never hunted a pig, time to research what type of ammo i should buy for my sks..

if it doesnt count as a regular hunt, can we take the plugs our of our shotguns? be handy to be able to toss 7 slugs into the super mag.

What is wrong with some of you guys? When it comes to wild pigs the only thing you should be hoping for is complete eradication, not expanding their range

Yup, apparently a lot of short sightedness among these Ontarians, they did put the Lieberals back in power. ;)

Grizz

that hurts me... right in the conservative.... toronto voted in the libs... been under a conservative MP and MPP for 12 years now.

also, hunting in ontario is so expensive, that any animal we can eat without paying for a yellow tag is about as good as it gets lol

I dont wish for herd expansion, just the current population to move westward...:)

A friend told me there were some sighted north of kingston.
