Why are so many almost new Zastava M70 rifles on the EE?

I am a CRF Mauser action fan, and own several Brno's. Mausers and some Ruger MKII's. I was considering adding a Zastava M70 in 9.3 to the collection. I have seen many of these rifles ( in other calibers) for sale in recent months on the EE. Most have been shot very little, or not at all. Wonder what the original owners didn't like about them?
It's just the flavor of the season and nothing else. Just the Kimber Rifle Company, everyone get's on the band wagon when they come out with a special run of accurate rifles.;)

I just picked up a Zastava in 375H&H, should have it this week in the mail. It will do to try out the 375H&H and some day down the road, I will buy the rifle I will take to Africa one day... Not sure what that rifle will be...

Cheers

Maybe after hunting season we can meet up at the range!

The wood stock on Zastavas could be better finished. In fact, a refinish job can turn that into a much nicer piece. Receiver/barrel is well finished, blueing is excellent. Good adjustable trigger....those were all smooth at least on my specimens. Good quality irons. Bolt is a little rough when new, however, becomes very smooth after some use. Very accurate rifles particularly with Prvi ammo.

Having said that, you may eventually wish to get that 9.3 in something like a CZ550 once you have already bought and handled the Zastava for a bit. :) Perhaps its just me, I feel the Zastava offers no attraction even though it is a good product.

I have a zastava in 9.3 and also had the cz 550. I ended up getting rid of the cz .The zastava is more practical, you can mount what ever you want for bases and better selection rings, I found that my zastava was more comfortable versus the bore back stock when a optic is mounted on it. The zastava is not a show piece but a work horse, you don't have to worry about getting it scratched or using it on a atv and etc...I like mine and it shoots accurate and if Tradex brings more of the longer barrel models in, I just might pick another one up. I actually like the look of mine to, looks tough and rugged.

I think the affordable price let's people think, "What the hell, I'll try it." Quit a few more Zastavas will sell compared to more expensive stuff, especially in "adventurous chamberings".

I've mentioned many times I used one briefly in Africa in .458, it's still earning a living there in the hands of a professional hunter. He wished he'd bought an RSM (he used mine and liked it) or a Model 70, as he'd done a few expensive upgrades on the Zastava (stock, sights, safety I believe). But if you're not out to turn it into a gem, and simply want a decent tool they are excellent beside a Savage or the like. I think they offer excellent value on a tough as nails CRF action. Thumbs up.

You changed sights for which ones?

Tradex is not importing the Zastava and the factory can do all you want. will the importer make all the paperwork for one custom order that is the question ...?

I have only owned one Zastava rifle, a 375 H & H some years back. Excellent rifle. Would not hesitate to buy another.

If one was making up a list of "value" rifles to consider i would add Zastava. They have been imported here under different names before. Mine was a "Interarms Mark X", others are Remington 798 (98 action not M70), and i believe Charles Daly.

I would not speculate on why they go back up on the EE. Perhaps people find a higher end rifle and move the "entry" gun to help pay for it. Certainly a step up from the plastic POS like the Axis and Rem 783.

Zastavas are great rifles, I own 3... They are a big step up from any of the budget rifles and are readily available in many calibers..... That being said, they lack the refinements of some rifles that are roughly $200 more in price and tend to be kept and used until such times as the owners can afford the higher end options with better optics....

Well put, and for us folks that love to tinker on rifles, Zastavas are excellent platforms to do up an accurate & dependable rig for most any hunting situation.

They are certainly not rugers, but they dont carry the ruger price tag either...... mine are in calibers I wanted to try now that I am getting into reloading.... 6.5 x 55, a 270 (sold)..... and a 7 x 57

I bought the gun, because I was looking for another fullstock 7X57... but after handling it for 10 minutes, it went up for sale and I just bit the bullet and bought another No.1...
