The Modern Hunter Rifle UPDATED December 10 2015

Rick, awhile back you mentioned that we'd be contacted at some point to confirm our choices of accessories (and final price). Is that time near? My only uncertainty was the grip, and I've cleared that up but not sure which one you have me down for.

Is CFW barrels only one contour? A CFW barrell would have similar heat battling/maintaining accuracy abilities as which of these?.. Varmint or a Heavy Barrel?

As per ATRS Modern Hunter page on their website:

If you choose the Proof Research Carbon Fiber Wrapped Barrel, the only options are ... .875 contour

Question: Why would the CPC even consider moving these to restricted? I thought they were trying to help us. Why did people even have this fear?

The party in power has the ability to change legislation that outlines what criteria determine a firearm's classification, meaning centerfire semi automatic with barrel shorter than x = restricted, if it's a variant = restricted/prohibited, if it's easily converted to fully automatic = prohibited, etc. It is the RCMP that determines what a firearm's criteria are, for example, whether it is easily converted to full automatic ("easily" being at their discretion) or if it is a variant of a restricted or prohibited firearm (again, the term "variant" is at their discretion).

We are still investigating more options and once we have exhausted the possibilities we will mass email everyone to confirm their options as ordered. You still have some time before we place orders for the numbers of grips and such.
I am hoping by the end of this month (October) that we will have all the options finalized and will be in touch with everyone to confirm.
I would like to get the accessory orders placed with our suppliers in November to make sure we have all the bits and pieces here and ready to assemble to meet our Feb projection for delivery.
Hope that answer the question. If not please contact me at the shop directly.

The CFW barrels come in 1 contour only. As for heat dissipation, from my experience shooting a 300 Norma mag which is a fairly overbore caliber, the heat dissipation is significantly better with the CFW barrels. In a 10 round string from my Norma we saw no heat deflection, but you could NOT touch the barrel it was that hot. Comparing this to a 300 Win Mag I have that has an AMU contour (very heavy) conventional stainless steel barrel, after 10 shots in rapid succession, same as what we put the Norma through, heat deflection in the barrel was noted. The conventional barrel was not quite as hot but took almost double the time to get back down to ambient temperature.

Lets take this even 1 step further. The government has the power to ban guns in general, regardless of the classification system.
By government decree firearms ownership is a "privilege" and NOT a property right as stated in the BNA act, so with the stroke of a pen we could all lose our guns regardless of the classification they currently are in.

This thread got some serious clean up as a result of 1 or 2 individuals posts over what today's amendments or changes to the firearms acts would do. After reading it (the firearms acts revisions) all I can not see anywhere where the government has made the wild claims that were made and that I was supposed to have inside information on, come to anything other than 1 or 2 guys wildest hopes and dreams.

The fact remains at this point the Modern Hunter enjoys NON Restricted status. Given the fact that we employ a proprietary trigger that is physically impossible without significant modification to the entire rifle to convert to full auto and the fact that both the upper and lower are NOT compatible with any other AR10 variant rifle, it is pretty certain that the final inspection will be that apart from cosmetic improvements it is not altered in design or operation from the prototype we submitted getting FRT#146190

And thus the major boon of this rifle. Barrel length can be controlled. Ability to add an auto sear and selector can be controlled. Ability to interchange AR-10 upper/lower can be controlled. We have run out of criteria that makes this rifle anything other than non-restricted.

AND photos of the final product!! Please note, the production rifles will be anodized black. This is the final prototype and will be sent to Ottawa for final inspection very soon.
This particular rifle weighs 8lbs 2 oz. due to the PRI Carbon Fiber Fore end and the CFW barrel.

Guess I showed up too early today. . Lol
Was great to get to see what I did and it looks amazing!
Great job guys!
How much weight will the prs stock add?

We literally just got it put together less than 30 minutes ago. The whining noise in the shop you heard while here was a milling machine doing the engraving on the upper.
Will weigh it tomorrow with the PRS, it has been a looooong day today.

That looks amazing! And to me the side charging handle is 10 times better then the ar rear receiver one. I look forward to to see testing, reviews, accuracy testing and to owning one, one day!

Yeah, I had the pleasure of manipulating the side charge handle today, and it's great. Like an xcr kinda, but can lay flat so you don't have anything sticking into your back if you sling it.

I lucked out getting a pic of the proto upper today, may not get to see that step of creation again :)

Get ATRS' permission to post proto upper pics for comparison :D

Also quite glad they went with the folding charging handle a-la FAL. Love the concept both of it folding and side charging... never liked the rear charge on the AR at all.
