Wild West selling old stock as new.

you obviously don't buy/sell much.

That gun is worth MORE to a buyer than a 2014 production.

But hey, since you have it all figured out, I'll take any stinky old (pre 1970) winchesters you got....oh, and those unsafe marlin levers with no crossbolt. Yeah, I'll take those as well.

I don't have anything figured out..except when selling a 17yr old gun you should inform the buyer of that fact..and allow him to make the decision based on your accurate description of the item.

Well I'd be freakin stoked!

Take 17 yr old gun, list on EE as "17 yr old pre-Remlin 870 NEW IN FACTORY GREASE!!" For twice the cost of a new one, then buy the super-duper 2014 model and an extra as a gift ;)

That would be amazing simply because an 1100 magically turned itself into an 870 over 17 years. You're so busy trying to impress upon us that the OP shouldn't care about the firearms age that you forgot what was purchased, lol.

Here is there reply I just got

"We will source the choke tube wrench for you. Apologies that you weren't aware of the Shotgun being older stock. Unfortunately there isn't
a big stress on notifying a gun is old, there is no excess wear besides having dust collected. As it being older stock we reduce the price on old stock
to account for the age. Again apologies if this has inconvenienced you in any way."

were they even in business when this gun was new?

So gun is perfect and really is new? No blems, no handling marks..no rust etc? Is it different then the present model sold this year? Not sure I get how it makes a difference all things being equal. Sounds like a better gun any way. When does new not become new, 6 months, 1 year, 17 years how would a person define it? Not trying to flame the OP just not really getting it. If the firearm is the same (or better) as 2014 production and if it is truly unfired and unblemished what's the difference?

ive heard of this happening before from wild west and I for one would be quite upset if I purchased a firearm thinking it was a current model and receiving one that is 17 years old.

Do you know whether the manufacturer's specifications for the gun have changed in that interim?

If what they say is true, that the gun has only been collecting dust, then it technically is a new firearm. If the specifications or design have not changed then you got a new 1100 just like you ordered. A few missing pieces is annoying since I would expect to get all that I am paying for when I get a firearm. Maybe they should put a note saying that some of the ones they are selling are old stock but if it's exactly the same as one produced today then I don't see why that should affect anything.
Some will argue differences in quality between the two but I am choosing to ignore that just to simplify things.

So a 40 year old gun sitting in a original packaging, box, wrapping, grease. Never shot, never taken out, so that WOULDNT be considered new?

I would never expect to get a 17 year old gun if buying "NEW", up to 5 years old I can understand but 17 WOW........

Unbelievable!

Got you a brand new TV here for ya..

Couldn't help it. I know its not the same. Too much coffee again.

I suppose if there is no difference between the two guns ...its hard to argue it isn't new. In this case..according to some experienced traders this deal works out in the buyer's favour..however..if the gun turned out to be less valuable or less desirable..do you really think the seller would not have done exactly the same thing to move the old stock? Of course they would..and there in lies the problem, and the reason one should clarify the age of the actual gun you will be receiving, within reason.

It sounds like the gun IS new. As in "new old stock". This usually commands a premium. I would pay more for what you received.

Warranty should start from the date marked on the sales receipt.

likely a customers but that was never used and traded in, seen this a few times when working at gunshops.
it ma not have been what the Op asked for, but in the end he got the better deal.
That said the 1100 and 11-87 are no longer made.
