Wood Furniture on your AR

my dad picked up a mid range AR and wanted to make a target gun out of it.
he ordered up and put a wood stock on it.
personally its not for me, but he likes it.

think i have a pic here somewhere.

personally i think if your gonna go wood go all the way.
do the butt stock, do the pistol grip and something on the for-end.
commit to the wood!

Turnbull does one up with a colour case hardened steel receiver for the ultimate in .....I'm not even sure what you'd call it.

I'd like to build one with an oil finished walnut stock n grip and have a smooth tube to the muzzle, with some form of conic flash hider like a number 5 enfield or mg42... You see where I'm going here.

Unfortunately not.
Unlike mini-30's or Mini-14's which can become more or less evil depending on how they are outfitted, AR's are subject to a different manufacturing process and are created solely with the purpose of hunting down puppies, innocent children and lace doilies.
It is because of these differences that "friendly" rifles such as the Mini series can be non-restricted, regardless of how they are dressed while AR's must be maintained as restricted, lest their blood lust grow out of control and blood run in the streets.

Or something.
Do like.....

does it make the AR less scary and NR?

:)

I seem to recall that in the past, heat from the barrel often caused catastrophic splitting of the wooden handguards because of how thin they would necessarily be. It's a function of the AR design.

Not all wood on mine; I think a little does the AR platform justice. Some of the stocks shown look really nice though, but I'm not sure about the handguard without it being too clunky (I suppose you could put a ton of vends up top)
