Best .308 AR for med to long range?

Going to take the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 off the LR-308 for this one. Hasn't been a lot of interest in the LR-308 on the EE so I may end up keeping it and having to buy another optic. I'm not going to give in to lowballers for such a sweet rifle, I'd rather keep it. I can always sell something else instead. Or keep them all :D

I ended up deciding to keep my LR308 as well. I thought about selling it. Figured I could upgrade to an AR10A target. But... I have an excellent trigger and I've had it shoot very well. I'm not sure it would be worth it to sell. Yes I understand ending up with a lot of AR rifles. I'm at 6 of the AR308 rifles alone right now. But I would rather keep them than sell them. They're such cool firearms.

If I was going to sell a 308 semi auto I think it would be my RFB. The only problem is it's about half the length of my AR308 rifles and it's non restricted. So it stays. That being said I greatly prefer my AR308 rifles. But the RFB serves it's purpose.

There is nothing wrong with that LR308 you have. It's a good target rifle. I would consider something in the 8-32x range for a scope later on. That's the route I'll be going with mine after I scavenge the 6.5-20x off it for another rifle.

I may steal the Sightron SIII 6-24x50 off my Savage 308 to put on the LR-308 if I keep it and then buy something a little better suited for hunting for the Savage. I've used the Sightron to shoot past 1000 yards without problems so I'm sure it would be fine on the DPMS.
I sold my RFB a few months ago, some days I regret that but I have enough others to fill the void left, it sure was nice for hunting and quadding though :)

I'll have the new one next week and I took the LR-308 off the EE, if anyone in the Edmonton area wants to try an AR-10 platform rifle let me know and we can try to line up a range day and you can shoot them both.

I was in at Tier One Armoury last night and picked up a 30 cal Troy Claymore for the 16 inch and they got a shipment of the 25 round body windowed Pmags in so I grabbed one of them as well ($32 if I remember correctly). They also have Magpul MIAD and I think MOE grips in various colors for the DPMS pattern AR-10's.

Be careful with pmags. Some AR308 rifles require the gen2 version to work. I personally like the new XCR-M 10 round pistol mags. It's also easier for target shooting as the mag is much shorter. Also check the MIAD/MOE as the regular AR15 one requires an AR10 wedge if using one of the beavertail backings for your AR308. The radius at the back for the beavertail is different on most AR308 rifles and there will be a gap without the wedge.

I see these guys just entered the market.

+1 on the XCR-M pistol mags. They work really well in my .308 LMT MWS. My 20/5 PMAGS work well also but I have to be careful not to over insert them. Found that out in a recent match when my bolt wouldn't release. Not sure which generation they are.

Just received a PM that the new magpul grips come in AR308 form factor or AR15. Goes to show you how much the market had taken off in the last few years. Before the wedge was the only way to get those grips to work properly.

Ya, Tier one has some of the grips made for the AR-10 in stock.
I have one of the XCR-M mags already and it works well in the DPMS.
I think all my Pmags are gen 2. I'll have to check the latest one with the 25 round body and windows (5 of them are still in the bags :))

ATRS, has a non restricted AR-10, "Modern Hunter",........

It starts at $ 3100.00, it is a limited build for now, ATRS is producing @ 100 rifles. and will be ready to pick up around Feb./2015

In attempt to continue in the right direction, just finished this beauty...will be my first long range semi
Don't know how it shoots yet but sure is nice to look at! Going to start with 168gr SMk's BTHP

Had my Mega-10 franken rifle out the other day.
Accuracy with S&B 147gr FMJ was cloverleafs at 50 yards while getting the scope dialed in.
Was having trouble with extraction so I swapped out the extractor and will try again next week when I'm back on days off.
I'm very excited to see what it can do with decent ammo at longer distances.

So since we have all the AR10 experts following this thread - what are your opinions on the Bushmaster XM10 that IRun Guns is bringing in?

I was searching for an AR10 tac driver, but I couldn't resist the price. FWIW I had an LMT MWS that I wasn't impressed with accuracy wise, I sold it after trying to work up a load. I think I was expecting too much from it, that and I couldn't really afford it.

Not expecting this to be a precision AR10 but hopefully it shoots alright :)

Cheers

How good (or bad) did it do w/ reloads? I have to say that I'm a bit taken back by it as they are highly regarded AR10s.

What barrel lenght? SS or CL?

When i saw this one , i had to get it, i had a chance to try the same rifle at the club, and i did supply one box of Federal GMM 168 gr to try it, it was shooting just over 2 inch at 200 yards with an Elcan specter 1.5 X 6 calibrated for 7.62 right of the bat...
First thing, i will do is to drop in this Geissele SSA-E trigger i have brand new on my desk into it, then, i will have fun...

The gentleman was happy to try my FNAR with my S&B 5X25X56 PMll in return, this Bushmaster is 16.5 inch barrel but it is a HBAR 10 in 1 chrome lined barrel and is superbly accurate, i am happy, i got one on the IRG deal for so little money...
Come up to 1200.00 Can, all in instead off just south of 2000.00 at the regular price, incredible price and avaibility...
A man cant have to many 308 of any style, they all are keeper...
My KAC SR15 is an awsome rifle but it's chamber in 223... Big difference in my book... JP.

I don't recall the best groups, but I was able to do better with hand loads than with FGMM and I would have been happy with MOA. I had the 16 inch CL and splurged for it after seeing the impressive results of others. It was a nice rifle, but pricey for sure.

Thanks for the info :)

That's unfortunate, considering the price that it commands.

Epoxy7 - go out and shoot that darn thing would ya!

Heheh, I'm easily distracted. Plus I need to buy a bunch of scopes. That being said the LMT is on the short list of rifles I need to get scoped and shooting. Too many rifles not enough scopes. Just stole the scope from the LR308 and put it on a SSG3000 bolt action. Thinking either SSIII or HD5 scopes for the next batch, but that will be later on. Also looking at changing up the furniture on the AR10T DND that I bought last summer. It came with A2 OD furniture. Thinking FDE with PRS stock would be better for it.
