And I caught glimps of a moose rack being tossed over the rail.. I walked up and looked in the bin and saw a load of deer antlers and what I could see two moose antlers in the disposal bin! I asked the guy why he was throwing these out and he replied " they were my fathers and we are cleaning out the house before putting it on the market"

If I was there. Minute sooner I would have had a ton of antlers for my garage!

Ah man. I hope my kids or grand kids never throw out my trophies! I was proud to take in my grandfathers 50" moose rack and proudly display it in the front hall.

When I bought my log cabin made in the 40's, there were a dozen sets of monster white tail antler sets. The seller said that's all he wanted out of the cabin when I bought it but he never came back to get them for whatever reason. They are all on full display now and will remain there for as long as it's mine. I have also found a antler set mounted on a plaque in the dump, brought it back and it's on display too. While it's unfortunate this happens, I guess if people don't have anything else to do with them, it's off to the trash they go.

Well that's too bad because he forgot to mention his dads rifle collection and antique revolver collection that went in before the antlers... i'm sure its happened!

The employees won't let you "pick the dump" because they have dibs lol. Trust me, it's true.

Like so much else these days it's mostly about liability issues. I know of one case where a woman scrounging at a municipal dump claimed to have injured herself while doing so and then tried to sue, saying they shouldn't have allowed her to! Needless to say, they don't allow anyone to pull stuff out any more.

Shown up on a sunny Friday at noon with a couple cold bevvies...
Friday is BBQ day with all the free propane that they get from people who are moving and the moving company will not ship propane cyl., full or empty so they are left at the dump for recycling.
You might be surprised how many friends at the Transfer Station you will make.

Am I the ONLY one sick and tired about liability issues?? If you do something that could potentially have dumb ass outcomes, as long as you're of sound mind when you made the decision, the only person responsible is you.

Here's a solution!!!! You make a conscious decision to do something that turns out bad and you want to sue --- very well. There is no way you could have been of sound mind when you made the decision and therefore you require protection from yourself!!! Have a nice day at the local mental facility!!! (and yes, I am being FACETIOUS - mental health is no laughing matter)

I find the dump operators mentality confusing. What about the "reduce, reuse, recycle" the government ads force on us? Try to reuse something you find at the transfer station and you are treated like a criminal.

I like the way you think !!

I'm sure the City of Winnipeg could make extra cash if they were to "reduce, reuse, recycle" AND resell some of the gems that end up at the dump !!

There was a pristine looking mower at the metal pile the other day and the attendant wouldn't turn her back so I could load it in my truck !!! :(
