Ruger Gunsite Scout - failure to eject

I have a pretty much new Scout rifle and when I cycle the bolt to eject the rounds they do not always eject. They get caught like in the below pic. It happens when the mag is full or empty, and makes no difference if I am soft or aggressive with cycling the bolt. Ideas?

Could it be mag lips incorrectly shaped causing following round to press up against the round being ejected?

Does it only happen when attempting to eject live rounds?

Yes, live rounds (just like in the pic)

If I cycle the bolt slowly to eject a live round, I can see and feel when the round will get stuck and when it will eject properly.
 
I’ll wait until my polymer mags get here and see if that has anything to do with it. That factory metal mag sucks anyways (even if it isn’t the issue).
 
I am thinking about getting one of these rifles. What is the issue with the metal magazines? I understand the metal lip issue talked about above. Are the polymer mags always more reliable?
 
I just figured out that when I load a round with the metal mag then take the mag out and eject the unfired round, it goes flying as it should. So I believe the issue is the mag.

Get one! I have the 16.5" version (model 6803) and took off the forward rail and filled the holes with 1/8" and 3/16" length set screws (6-40 thread pitch) that I honed a bit shorter with a file, and replaced the flash hider with a 5/8-24 thread protector (shaving an extra 1.5" off the OAL and several ounces) :D

As for the polymer mags, as always they are just so much nicer and smoother. Think Pmags in your AR!
 
Question.. did you load the mag the way most would (top down).... or did you follow the instructions?.. i ask because i ha e 5he ztock ten rounder and a polymer 3 rounder and following the instructions made a huge difference.....

What do you mean "top down"?

Top down like you would load a normal double stack mag. If you try that method on these rifles you could bend the feed lips on the magazine. You have to load these like a pistol magazine or a ruger 10/22 magazine.

Push the follower down with the cartridge, then slide it in under the feed lips.

Ohhh.. yea of course I only loaded the mag like a pistol mag. In fact, I don’t think it’s possible to load "top down" like double stack mag!?
 
Some people are able to load them top down in the polymer magazines. Probably not a good idea to force it on a steel mag.

As to your ejection issues, do you have another magazine to try?

Not yet. I have 6 polymer mags coming from Brownells this week :)

I’m sure it’s a mag issue. I tried that technique again where I cycled a round, took the mag out, then ejected it and it did not FTE. As soon as I popped the mag in and left it in while cycling a round, the bullet suffered a FTE several times.
 
hi pazzo don't wait for poly mags,nothing will change, just send it for warranty .it needs ejector adjustment .
I did not know Brownells sell mags to Canadian customers.do they?
 
zuka, you're right, the new polymer mags made no difference. And yes, Brownells sells mags to Canadians ;)

Good luck with warranty. It took the repair centre in Quebec about 8 months to fix my brother's GSR and its safety issue. Ended up having to get a new rifle shipped up from Ruger. They even sent the rifle back after 2 months, without even looking at it. They claimed they "forgot"...
