I'm looking at scope mounting options for my sks and i think I've narrowed it down to one of these. They look identical to me, but I'm wondering if any of you have handled both to shed some light on the pro's and con's. Also wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences with either, everything I've read so far has only been positive. Thanks.

I own both ... DO NOT GET THE KWIK RAIL Its built too thin TRUST ME. the shells deflecting off the mount vibrated my Nikon scopes cross hairs so they would be blurry for about 6 seconds after a shot..... so I bought a Wartak (twice as thick) and ive had no issues since.

never had a single issue with my kwikrail with a case of surplus bounciing off it. the new versions of the kwik rail is built more robust. the groove down the centre can be used as a BUIS which the wartak does not have.

The current incarnation Kwik Rail is a one piece unit and extremely strong.

My machinist is a precision shooter and has assured me that the thickness of the rail is not an issue for accuracy or retaining zero. Aside from saving weight, the thinner profile allows a better cheek weld as the rail is slightly closer to the receiver as it sits lower.

And as Zeuce says the back up iron sight groove is a pretty sweet feature to have ...

The Magwedge looks better too .... ;)

I would buy magwedge myself, if I still owned my last sks: I see them at the HACS show in Burnaby every month: one piece for any sks mounting solutions; and solid to boot!

Im glad to hear Magwedge fixed that.... too bad I bought it when it first came out for $128... that version was built waaay too thin. So I took my money else where.

I would think it would be a pain in the ass to clean the gun after shooting with a rail and scope on it? Do you have to remove the rail every time you want to clean it?

Yes but I pour boiling water down the barrel. I think the red dot or scope would be in the way and could get exposed to the boiling water. Am I wrong?

Well there may be other ways to clean corrosive ammo fouling than using boiling water.

If you must use boiling water perhaps a bungie cord would hold the mount and optic safely out of the way. The assembly will flip up to about 90 degrees if I recall correctly.

I would be more worried about getting hit with the boiling water myself, LOL.

I read in one of these forums that one of the easiest ways to clean corrosive ammo residue is to get your hands on a small handheld steamer. If you can get one with a 90 degree nozzle attachment, then you just stick it in the barrel and steam it to your heart's content. You can do the same for the gas tube, piston and bolt, and any other part you want to clean. Eliminates a lot of the fuss about corrosive ammo. Of course you have to oil afterwards.

As far as the Kwik rail, a friend of mine owns the newer one-piece model, and it works great. That groove in the middle allows some use of the iron sights even with a scope attached. The Wartak and the Kwik rail both angle upwards pivoting on the rear sight attachment when you remove the rear pin/lever holding the recoil spring housing. From what I have seen, the scope is not in the way of cleaning, and holds zero. The only thing is that it adds a long rail with scope that is vertical off your rear sight during cleaning, and that can be a bit awkward, but you get used to it. One thing my friend found is that the kwik rail was not snug once attached at the rear, so he simply used a vise to slightly bend the "wings" inward until it was a tight fit. This will help with the zero. I would think twice about using the vise on the first gen rail and the Wartak since they are two-piece rails.

I've got the Gen 1 magwedge kwik rail on my SKS. If I could I would put the Gen 2 on being as it is one solid piece. The rail I have seperated into two pieces after a couple hundred rounds. Took some time in the shop to re-attach the two pieces and it still performs perfectly with no loss of zero. Gen2 FTW

Yes and no, and I only say yes for the first few times you clean the rifle. If you are like me and dont pay attention the first few times (ya, I'm a slow learner LOL) that rail and scope can swing around and squash your thumb, finger or hand, and it friggin hurts LOL. Other than that, its been great so far being a first gen rail. I'm sure if it ever separates they will take good care of me!

Well i think I'm sold, with the obvious focus on customer service from MagWedge i think the Kwik Rail is a no brainer. Going on the Christmas list, lol. If that doesn't pan out I'll be buying myself a Christmas present of my own, lol. Thanks.
