My 2014 mule deer. I cancelled my tag on day one which is not generally how it goes for me. I spotted this fellow at 11:00 am and it took me about 2 hours to belly crawl to within muzzle loader range. I then spent the next three hours waiting or him to stand for a shot. He only took about three hops and went down. I used a 300 grain Barnes Original with a crushrib sabot and 75 grains (weight) of blackhorn 209. The bullet weighed 274 grains after pullng it out from under the hide on the far side of the neck. It broke the front shoulder and took out the front of the heart and lungs before lodgeing in the neck aout 6-7 inches down from his ear. The tape comes in at just a hair shy of 180 inches

Congrats on the hunt that's pretty epic! I am shooting a Barnes T-EZ 290gr out of a T/C Omega with 77 grains (weighed) of Blackhorn 209. Looking go shoot several deer and a antlerless Moose right away. :)

I've never shot one with my muzzle loader... Your post has inspired me to try this year IF I make it to the season, which falls after our rifle season...

NICE BUCK!

Cheers
Jay

Ive never fired mine either yet, I'll have to give it a try. Congrats on a really nice buck! You deserved it after being that patient getting up to it.
