Glock 17 or S&W MP 9mm

Get whichever pistol feels better in your hand and you shoot better with.
I've owned both and had no issues with either one. The reason I still have the M&P9 as opposed to the G17 is the grip. Hands down, for me, the grip on the M&P is far more ergonomic and comfortable. Your mileage may vary.

The thread should have ended when they said to take both out and decide for yourself.

For what it's worth my first pistol was the M&P 9mm. It has a nice grip, crappy trigger, and everything else people said on this thread. I sold it and bought a Glock 17. Better trigger by default, and all the other stuff already mentioned.

I'll stick with my Glock, and bought a .22 upper for when I take new shooters out. Something the M&P doesn't have (to my knowledge).

did you do it at target? were you in nigel's class?
i have a friend that was in nigel's class this past weekend.

No I went through York Region Firearms on the weekend.
I just go to Target from time to time just to shoot some rounds without a PAL.
How much is membership there, I heard it's up there?

Expensive Id have to check my receipt but around $600 for a first time member, but you dont have much choice if you want to shoot indoor. Im from Mississauga and I first wanted into Burlington range, but they were not even accepting applications till this month, and no range class available till the end of 2015! Other then that there is Urban tactical that I know of but they are in Brantford

TS is expensive but I like the full service they have there, they have the largest selection of hand guns on display at any gun store I have been too so far. And my first time there I was able to shoot a Glock gen4 17, then buy the same pistol new, and sign up as a member...I am now a full member as of the beginning of the month

I have been placed in The Oshawa Marksmen Club waiting list and I told them I won't have my licence come in the mail until around March.
They charge 650 and then 350 the year after that. When I called TS about membership they said its 700 first year and year after that is 600 but I agree, they have a nice facility and a wide range of gun selection.
Does TS require to get a C.S.S.A?

C.S.S.A membership is included in the $700 range membership fee. I just checked my receipt and its $655 for TS membership 1st year, and $45 CSSA membership per year. I believe you have to buy the CSSA and its not an option
I dont remember how much cheaper it is the 2nd year, but it is cheaper to renew and not $700 again

I just looked on the Oshawa page and they are also not accepting any applications, its a little to far for me anyways, and I wanted to shoot ASAP....I still like to look at all the options

At TS I signed up and my range class was about a month and half after signing up. Once I did the class, right after it finished I was able to sign up for my 3 probationary shoots, for Mon, Tues, Wed....So after the little wait for the class I was in very fast...

I have both and like each. When I take them both apart for a detail strip, I appreciate the build of the M&P and admire the simplicity of the Glock. If I could only have one it would be the M&P. That's jsut me.

If the wait is long for The Oshawa Marksmen club then for sure I will probably at least do one year with TS and/or maybe do a duel membership.

Where are you from? Im able to bring guests to TS, so you could shoot with me instead of a range officer from them...That way you can buy ammo outside TS and get better prices and shoot more. I have a modded G17 with a trigger kit in it, a stock G19 with threaded barrel, and A Glock 21C....I should get my LATT any day now. I have been 2 times already to shoot the club guns, but it gets expensive because you have to buy their ammo to shoot in their guns. In those 2 visits I spend $400 in ammo. For that price I get 1000 rounds online

I shot almost all the hand guns at TS and the Glocks just work the best for me, so Im doing the Glock thing for now...A guy was there that competes production IPSC one day when I was there, he let me try his Tanfoglio Xtreme II. That was an amazing gun! But it was also in the $2500 price range, and he was using 147gr ammo he packs himself....That will probably be my next pistol purchase, something higher end like STI or Tanfoglio

I've owned glock 22 and 35 and have shot a 17 and 17c. I've owned a mp9 and mp9 pro. I prefer all the glocks, I sold the m&ps.

What about longevity?

Either one will be putting rounds down range loooooong after the average Canadian shooter is done with them. This thread definitely got me thinking, and I'm leaning towards selling the Glocks - the M&P is pretty much worthless and I've become attached to it's worn finish and scraped up grip.

ive never understood this whole 'sell a gun' concept that some of you speak of.
even saying the words make the lights dim and i swear i hear cultist chanting whispered in the distance.
much better to just park the unused gun in the safe and buy new stuff and keep moving forward.
that way when you feel nostalgic you can just take out the old gun.... or the 50 old guns.....

Do what I did and go to a store and hold them all (and by all I mean Ruger, Sig, H&K, Walther, etc). I was previously a Glock fan, but when I held all the brands in my hand it was the S&W and Walther that felt the most comfortable.

The Glock shape I had been used to all of a sudden felt terrible. I don't mind the blocky look, but the blocky feel is just horrible compared to everything else that's available now. Glock may have been able to get away with it 15 years ago, but no longer.

However, S&W is universally reviewed as having the worst trigger in the category, where at least the Glock's is okay.

Taking all of these things into consideration, and researching it even more, I made the decision to buy the Walther PPQ because it was super comfortable, had amazing quality, and had the best trigger in the category. Most of the ones in Canada are the M1 model with the paddle mag release on the trigger guard, but I went with the harder-to-find M2 with the conventional button mag release.

I know you're primarily asking about Glock and S&W, but both of those pistols have compromises. Go with the Walther if you want the best of all worlds, and you're willing to pay a bit more. ###y as heck, too:

This right here. Spend a bit more for the PPQ and get ready for awesomeness :) I will have one in my hand soon.

Anyways if you're like me you will buy and sell many searching for the perfect gun or two or three... you get the idea lol
