My buddy got this sks here at CT. I looked it over after and found it to be strange. It's a 54 with these markings. My question is why it says made in Russia? Wasn't it Soviet union? I never seen this.
Gun has exceptional finish on steel and it's smooth as butter. Minor machining marks inside. Stock is a crap non matching replacement as well as the mag...but the rest of it is as new with chrome barrel etc. Any info will be appreciated.

Just the export marks on red rifles now.. basically milsurps arent allowed to be exported from Russia so these new markings label them 'sporting/hunting rifles'

They're export markings in accordance with UN rules. Be glad they're hidden... By law they must be visible in the USA, and their surplus guns have the same markings on the side of the receiver.

It's part of the reason why the Ukrainian exports to distributors like Westrifle get a premium...

Well I helped my buddy pick it out and he was thinking of selling it. But... i just found it weird so I thought I'd ask. This gun is really nice with exception of the non matching mag and stock. Rest looks like a new gun. I'm debating on buying it.

Guys in order for the rifle to be exported it has to be refurbished. Anything that goes to Molot factory gets with stamp that you see. In reality by Russian law they only allowed to export it when they remove the bayonet so be glad they did not do that.

From what i've seen there is either a "13" or a"14" in themarkings--prob mean year exported.
They all [molot imports] seem to be BBQ painted, non matching mag and non matching belt sanded stock...
I saw a '49 sks@ the montreal south shore gunshow on saturday[molot import]--mismatched mag and possibly stock and the gas block was not a '49...

Mine is a 1954 with a mismatched mag and BBQ paint just as you said. Bought mine from CTC in Niagara 2 wks ago. That BBQ paint really makes the rifle look like a POS though.

Really when did this happen? Iv purchases non-referb sks' before and non of the ones iv owed had any markings like that...although i haven't bought one for a few years now. Is this some new UN bull$hit that recently came into effect?

Russian rifles started showing up with these new export markings in the last year or so. It is their bureaucracy, not ours that require this.

Yeah the sks i got at CT also has these markings. Meh for 150$ this late in the game its still a steal, I picked through a few and got a mint bbq paint 54 with a new barrel.
