Hey guys and gals, I'm new to handguns and don't want to cheap out on a 'learner' to be upgraded within a year. Like when I got my class 6, I went straight to a litre bike.

The local shops for me carry neither the p226 nor the cz tac sport, so I can't really make an educated first hand decision other than watching endless YouTube videos.

Please only reply if you have experience with either or both, or if you have another high end shooter to take into consideration. My decision will mostly revolve around reliability and accuracy, no glocks, steel all the way. Price point around $800-1500.

And if anyone has shot .357 Sig, tell me about it!

I've got a 226 Elite Dark and I've shot the CZ75 SP01 Shadow. Choosing between the two is a tough one. I like 'em both but ended up getting the 226 Elite BUT I will be adding a CZ75 SP01 Shadow eventually. The deciding factor (and kinda silly to some) was that I find the 226 looks nicer. I'm not crazy about the looks of the CZ75 slide design.

Now I'm not the type to choose a gun because of ergonomics. That's just because I'm not that fussy about which gun feels better in my hand or if X-gun has a more natural pointability to it over Y-gun. Just give me a couple mags worth of ammo to get the feel of a gun and then I'll shoot it just fine. That being said, I found the low bore axis of the CZ75 made it easier to manage recoil and it did not take much time to get used to how the gun performs. It was very much like point and shoot. I found the 226 higher bore axis meant a little more effort in controlling the recoil and it took a little bit longer to get the "feel" of how the gun performed. With the tuned CZ75 SP01 Shadow and a 13lb hammer spring, the CZ trigger has a nicer feel than the 226 Elite with SRT kit IMHO. The CZ75 has a smaller grip than the beefier 226 if that matters to you.

You'll eventually buy one each, it just boils down to which one you want to buy first. :)

I purchased a p226 Tacops as my first gun. Loved it so much I bought a p226 Scorpion. Don't have first hand experience with the CZ although I am also contemplating looking at a shadow for the future.

Luckily I have both... Sig p226 and Cz sp01 shadow.....love them both, honestly put more rounds through the sig , upgraded the sights to truglo and bought more mags, going to use it to do my black badge, but the shadow is my special gun...thin grips work great for me, it just feels quality, great trigger, great sight, and just super slick to shoot.. Wouldn't sell either, I agree, if funds allow ...get both...neither will disappoint....

I never got to try a shadow unfortunately. Only got to try a Sig P226 and a regular CZ75. The Sig felt much better in my hands. Any way you can go to a local range and rent their guns?

edit: I noticed you're in Chilliwack, most of the vancouver dealerships should have them in stock for you to at least hold? I got my Sig from reliable guns and i'm pretty sure they have a cz75 sp-01 shadow in stock too. I'm picking up my Sig on Saturday, will take a look for you

As I have both the Elite Sig and the Shadow, it would come down to budget.

The Shadow is a great value and you cannot go wrong, however the Sig Elite or any 226 with the SRT is better in my opinion.

But at a much higher price.

cheers.

Op do you mean the tactical sport model or the shadow. Big difference for those talking about a shadow in this thread! I have a shadow and want a tacsport.

I find the shadow and tacsport both felt very similar in my hands and between the two I like the shadow better. I don't think the way the p 226 felt, but that was a grip thing and can easily be changed. Both are fantastic shooters by my vote is for the cz. It feels better in my hand and my finger falls perfectly on the trigger. The cz sp-01 shadow feels like it's custom made for me!

The tac sport is a bit heavier and is SAO, look at the model with adjustable sights as the fixed sight model will not fit in the box that some disciplines use. I have also seen some of the sig models with the factory mag well and fixed sights not fit as well.
The Tac sport used to come with a bunch of extra bits like slide stops and such as part of the package to keep things running.

First off, the OP stated he was looking at the CZ75 Tactical Sport. VERY different from the Shadow.

I had one. It was a great pistol. I sold it because everything was hard to find for it. Mags where hard to get, retention holsters, sights, and grips all hard to find and order. I traded mine for an STI 1911 in 9mm and have never looked back. I like single action and a heavy steel pistol.

The trigger was VERY light but a nice clean break.

Never shot a SIG before so I cant compare, but I cant honestly say I would tell someone to by the Tac Sport. To many other great choices out there with better support.

Quick question I have the Shadow and love it, feels good shoots good, I have been trying out a stock 226 at the range and I shoot low and figuring out my POA should be covering the bull.. I also find the trigger long and was wondering if a SRT improves it or is the Elite a better option all around from the stock 226.

That's pretty damn sweet! I wanted that model but nobody had 'em in stock anywhere at the time. :p

Easy to find, right next to the unicorns. Beware not to wake the flying dragons, and whatever you do, don't release the krackin. Just to add, whenever I found one I was ready to pounce, but always in 40 with me seeking the 9.

Apologies, been drinkin'

Srt shortens reset only. Combat sights come on Sigs, your absolutely right, poa covers bull. You can add srt to any Sig, different elite models come with different features(sights, grips, etc.). I believe most elites come with tails and srt, but not all, don't quote me.

Many thanks so SRT still has the long trigger then.. covering the bull is not want I'm used to so would look for another sight or changing the rear..
