Ok, got my used pistol, like it so far.

I will be putting one of the ZRTS ultimate kits in as soon as Blue line gets some in...

I will also be removing the mag disconnect.

Now, can I replace the curved back strap with a standard 1911 straight back strap? Or is it specific to the GSG?

I also want to put "real" sights on it. I have a Ruger SR1911, and would like to put the same sights on my GSG. The cuts look very similar to me, but before I buy any sights, I need to know what kind of sights I need.

Is there anything else I should do that doesn't cost lots while I have it apart?

trigger isn't bad, so I think I will leave it, at least for now.

Ulitmately, I plan on stripping it down to bare metal and doing the new semi gloss clear Cerakote. I want it to look as much like my SR1911 finish as I can.

thank you!

You could convert it to series 70 style by removing the firing pin safety. And yes you can replace the mainspring housing (back strap) with a flat one.

Heres mine, the only other things I plan on doing are the magwell I have enroute and a flat mainspring and a gi grip safety since I hate beaver tails and maybe a flat trigger.

You can replace the MSH but you need a complete one, the GSG guts are different and contain the mag disconnect. Dlask has decent replacement sights for these...F/O front and adjustable rear.

thank you everyone!!

for the firing pin safety, any how-to's out there? does this require any other parts, or just a removal of something? and are there any downsides to it?

those sights you show, are they a specific cut or are they common?

Does the actual GSG 1911 have issues with the mags sticking when the slide locked back?

On mine they dropped free even with the mag disconnect installed.

As for main spring housings, any 1911 housing will fit with some very minor filing, I bought one from Dlask and it was great.

MSH will of course fit, but I'd check that spring (if you're going to swap it out with a 1911 in .45 as a unit)...they may be different ratings. There is no fining pin safety ( like a Colt series 80) on the GSG. There is a magazine safety whereby the gun will not fire unless a magazine is inserted and seated. (stupid IMHO)...I just remove them, easy peasy and it doesn't effect function of the gun at all (aside from being able to fire a chambered round with the mag removed (read changing mags).

Most if not all internals are identical to a North American 1911, the grip screws are of course metric however.

No probswith mine either...I did the dlask adj rear sight, but will now have to do the fo front...love it..

I think you mean there IS a firing pin safety like on the Series 80....there is on mine....

Must be the conversion kit. I'm running a Series 70 Frame with a GSG and all 4 mags I got, wouldn't drop free. I had to file the back of the follower tab a bit. To allow the mags to drop free, other then that I had to yank very hard.

GSG is a series 80 style firing pin safety, not a Schwartz style like your vid....different animals.

Dilligaf, can you point me to the sights you bought for the GSG. I have been trying to figure out the variation of dovetails and have my head spinning like a top.
Thanks.
