Ruger Deerfield 99\44 .44 Mag

I hope ruger brings them back, but in stainless this time.

When was the last time anyone saw Ruger bring back a discontinued model? The 99/44 will never be reintroduced. They would have to build it on the Mini 14 line which would mean suspending production of the Mini 14 which they're not going to do as long as the demand for the Mini 14 is what it is. And this is what I was personally told by the head of Ruger marketing a couple of years ago. It's about the bottom line. Making $$$. Sad but true.

Everything comes back... even bell-bottoms...

I'm bringing this one back up - A good friend finally lent me his Ruger .44 MAG Carbine to try out for a while (probably a long while as he has had it for over 5 years and never shot it). It is a little beat up, it has been used and needs a good cleaning; I gave it a quick wipe and light oiling when I got it home. I can't wait to put some rounds through it tomorrow.

Amen!!

I've got a 44 carbine that I love dearly.
I would feel much better about taking a new stainless synthetic version out in the rain and snow!!

Having said that, I emailed Ruger a few months back about this, unfortunately they have no intention on bringing the 44 carbine back in any form at this time 😢

Do you think anyone would have a stock for this rifle, or is that just wishful thinking? I googled gun stocks but that is almost futile.

Zedbra, there is a lot of meat on those stocks, so if the stock needs a good sanding down there is lots to work with. I have done two of them where I took all the square sharp edges out and carved in a defined pistol grip, it trimmed the rifle up nicely and took that club feel out of it. The only place you have to be careful is the top of the pistol grip as there is not a lot of wood in that area to the bolt hole than joins the stock to the receiver piece.

^ Well that's good to know, as this stock is in rough shape. I may clean it and steam it to see how many of the bumps lift before I go full-on with sanding. Thanks, mrgoat. Do you have pics of the stock you did?

I picked up a new in box Deerfield on here a few years ago for 1200 and was worth every penny , just an awesome little bush gun That draws lots of attention , Have 20 shots through it now and several deer stopped in their tracks , I'm probly a little twisted but would pay a premium if I needed another one

I am with you crazy hunter After looking for a good Ruger Deerfield 99/44 rotary mag fed carbine (not the tube fed older version as I believe many on this thread are confusing with) I purchased a NIB one off Gunbroker and with taxes and import fees etc went just north of $1500. That was when the dollar was at 95 cents!! These are considered collector status now and the premium is required to buy and all the I REMEMBER WHEN statements wont buy you squat. Even a new Mini 14's or Mini 30's are settling in with taxes over $1200 and they are still in production!!!

Zedbra, at this time I don't have any specific pictures of my Ruger. From what I can see of yours some of the sharp edges are chipped off etc., all that could be removed for the most part. I carved and slimmed the pistol grip on mine because I found the grip like grabbing hold of the end of baseball bat, especially with a gloved hand. Plus it just looks better.

I managed to put a dozen rounds through this rifle after volunteering at the range all day. I'm not gonna lie, I loved firing it. Minimal kick for a .44 - I'm impressed and still have a grin on my face.
