8.5" 12ga vs bear

would a 12ga slug from an 8.5" gun do a bear?

contemplating an acquisition, but wondering how much muzzle velocity can be obtained during only 8.5" of accelleration
 
You need a Mossberg 590a1 14" barrel. Seriously though, I'm sure the bear will go down. Just train like hell with it.

I'm not sure I couldn't hit #### with mine so I got rid of it and went to the 12.5

i just got a DA backpacker, and really diggin the whole 27" thing, but want some follow up shots.

Nah, hopefully I can hold onto it for more than a year. Hell I had my 18.5 for about 2 years and only sold that to get the 14". But everyone does need one lol.

I can hit targets 30ft away, from the hip with a shotgun without any trouble. Then again, my targets aren't charging at me :runaway:

If Yogi is within 10 or even 30 yards, put some BBQ sauce on yourself. Maybe you'll have annoyed a bear that doesn't like sweet stuff. You will never be fast enough nor accurate enough with anything. Yogi can cover 100 yards in less than 6 seconds. You cannot recognize the threat and react with accuracy in that time. Oh and the slug will do if you can hit Yogi's brain stem or spine. You won't stop him in his tracks if you hit him anywhere else. Mind you, a 10 yards even that won't help.

well what if i pull up at 100yd, and let off at 10?
