Possible deer hunting closures

While speaking to a senior conservation officer today in my area, he stated that there are very likely to be a number of areas closed to deer hunting next fall. He said area 30 (my area) was one possible area for closure plus others he would not list. He said that the deer numbers are way down in many areas.
I asked him how a closure is suppose to work if not EVERYBODY is kept from hunting (if you know what I mean). His reply was that they are working on that.

What are your thoughts??

They are only proposing it at this time.
If and when it becomes a reality then you will see how it plays out.
Look at the West coast Salmon Fishery.
The special group fishes regardless of the run size while the commercial guys stay tied to the dock.

where is area #30? In the south with the restrictions? I don't have the reg guide in front of me at this time? I know there is a super shortage of deer around all over. Prolly a total closesure Prov wide for next year is the best thing that could happen! We may be in for another harsh winter according to CJOB radio. For wtf sakes! I don't mind the big snow, but I just can't stand the long c-o-l-d spells!
 
there would be no reason to ever close the deer season here in the southern part of Ontario .we have a lot of deer here on the farm land .Dutch
 
They can put a total ban on deer hunting and no one can hunt not even sustenance hunters. The only problem is they would have to close the whole province as if you leave some areas open they will wipe out the population in that area just like what happened with the moose. I can't see this current government giving up the revenues it generates from deer licenses in the whole province for one year.

I don't think its a race bait question....its a political reality of our current society!!! Ignoring it will not bring about resolutions to make conservation of wildlife a reasonable goal....just my 2 cents though!
 
That sucks. We're being over run with whitetails out on the farm. If the problem keeps up next year we're going to find every nephew, niece, and grandkid with a deer tag to drop the numbers in half if possible.
 
The issue isn't in closing it but rather the difficulty in having it reopened once the numbers rebound. There have to be numerous consultations before it can be allowed to be reopened.
I think it would be wise to see how this winter will play out. Most guys I've talked to said they had better hunting this year than last and we don't need a knee-jerk, window dressing reaction from the politicians.
Bottom line: they have no clue what the numbers are as the NDP spends no money on game counts so any decision will be arbitrary at best.

Cant foresee it. A thought or discussion by government officila rarely translates to policy or law. Although I am yet to fill my tag, I have seen twice the number of does and fawns as the last year.

lots of our country deer have scooped up their belongings and moved into the big bad city, the violent crime capital of Canada. Lots of wolves and yotes around this year. Quite a few car accidents with the deer running around in the city.
 

Something needs to be done about all the wolves and coyotes, my hunt looked like it took place at a dog park.
 
I've been hearing rumour that if we get another bad winter under our belts deer hunting will certainly be closed throughout many areas of the province as well. But on a positive note, in my old stomping grounds (about ten quarters spread over six or seven miles in 25) there seems to already be more animals than last season. We easily cut twice as many tracks after the snow flew and found sign of several bucks, of which there were none to be seen in 2013. The Crown land on the West side of Lake Manitoba where a few buddies and myself stage a party hunt once a year too showed a healthy doe population and a number of mature bucks as well, even giving up a couple for the freezer.
 
there is 'talk/rumours' here in sask of a closed deer season next year.
or just people speculating and have nothing better to talk about.

but this year has been difficult to find any deer for me and the farmland rifle season is two weeks.
but the outfitters still had their six week season and the canadian resident draw still went ahead.
if things were that bad,why was this allowed to be? money of course.

i have more coyotees on my cams than ever before.
more elk than ever before.
more wild boars than ever before.

these keep the deer away from the bait and change their feeding habits
