Tavor Vs Type-97

So I really want a non-restricted bullpup. The Type-97 looks cool at $999 but requires the FTU to make it more useable and scope compatible. So that's roughly $1400 total before tax. The Tavor looks and sounds awesome but is like $2600 or so which is fairly tough on the wallet. Is that additional $1200 worth it? What does the Tavor offer that the Type-97 doesn't that justifies the price?

Are there any other NR bullpups worth looking at?

I have had 3 Norincos including the T97, all have been flawless as far as operation however I am not sure what is about them I just prefer the finer firearms.
 
Having owned both, I can say that there is no comparison really other then in the broad sence of that they are both bullpups.

Lets pencil this out. How much for new:
$1000 T97NSR
$330 t97.ca FTU
$*** t97.ca LHG (I guess a value of $300)
$*** t97.ca Magwell adapter (value of $50)
$*** t97.ca Butpad adapter (value of $25)
$*** t97.ca Mag release (value of $25)
$60 for a pistol grip
$40? For a AR buttpad

Doubt all said and done it can be had for under $1930 BEFORE tax. Not that much difference now then is there?

Also, North Sylva (the importer of both rifles) recently anounced that they have made a better deal for the Tavor with IWI due to the amount they have been able to move in Canada and have set a new lower MSRP of $2500.

Then on top of all this, the T97NSR has ZERO parts support. Its the same difference between buying a brand name product and an "off-brand" product.

At the start of this post I said I OWNED both. I will let you guess which I kept.

To me the lack of spare parts really kills the T97 and there for I view it as a throw away rifle. With that in mind, I have a hard time thinking its reasonable to buy it for the $1000 and then continue to invest hundreds into it even though the parts can be moved to a new rifle after the first one craps out.

I am a firm believer in buy once cry once after a few hard lessons in this hobby. Believe me, if you go the T97 route, you will forever yern to have a Tavor.

Tavor.. Hands down. I have handled both, while I really liked how comfortable the t97 felt when I shouldered it, the ergonomics of the tavor sold me. The magazine release is awsome, the bolt release is awesome, the charging handle is awsome. For me the height for my check weld is very comfortable, and I love how fast I can transition between targets with my tavor. Very flickable. Mag changes are wicked fast and the gun is reliable as hell. To me well worth the money I spent on it.
 
Go to LGS, handle both, make up own mind.

That's how I did it, ended up with a T97 FTU. Different strokes for different folks. I'll likely end up going with the LHG which will bring the price a lot closer to a Tavor in the end.

I just like bullpups to be honest.
T97 = 29.8" of fun.
