Looking for a 22lr for casual precision shooting? options?

I'm looking for a 22lr for casual precision shooting.

I will be using match ammo of some kind and I'm not looking to spend more than $1000 on rifle and scope.


I was thinking a cz 455 or a savage mark II.


what else is out there that I'm over looking?
 
Savage btvs, but ancholts or however you spell it, is your best bet but maybe out do your cost.
Bolt imo is better than semi auto for long range.
PWS from questar is another option.
 
Hard to beat a 452 CZ, have three and one 455. Prepare for 10001 opinions, wade through the bs, go to a range and actually talk to folks shooting guns instead of keyboards. Jes stirrin' the pot a little on this cold friggin' day. LOL
 
I have a CZ452 lux, 455american, NS522, BTVS, 10/22



Have not shot the NS522 yet....But most accurate goes to the BTVS (slight advantage over CZ455)

One I like to shoot the most is the 455 american. Just fits me great.


Love the 452 as well, I havn't shot it very much and is still iron sights which I really like. Does have great potential, I just havn't put it up for a real test.

10/22 is relatively stock,......That gun is collecting dust and I have no ambition to shoot it anymore.....After I got my CZ's that is.....
 
For "casual precision shooting" it's hard to beat a CZ. They have a deserved reputation for accuracy and fit and finish. In these regards most would say they surpass Savage Mark II's. I just picked up my third CZ in less than a year, this one a new CZ 453 Varmint. There are still a few CZ 452's available, but the newer 455's have interchangeable barrels, which means you can change between .22LR, .17 HMR, and .22 WMR should you wish down the road. There are a variety of models, including those that come with iron sights and those requiring a scope. Our friends on the Rimfire Central forum have many more details.
 
I am bias...........so CZ it is, also have a look around and compare used prices on the savages and the CZ's, one is an investment and the other is the flavor of the month, that said search around for anything 452 that is new and old stock in a quiet out of the way gun store, holds an edge over the 455 and is highly sought after.

there are a couple of BRNO's in the EE, grab one either a model 1 or a model 2 they were the start to CZ's rising fame and I have never heard of a lemon.........ever

I think if I had more money I would buy an Anschutz sporter of some kind, but the $1300 price tag is a little steep. I sure they are worth every penny tho.

The cz seems like a good value for quality compromise. I am a big fan of savage but sometimes I think the fit and finish leaves a little to be desired. Savages sure can shoot tho.


Now I got to sell one of my pistols to fund this.....

Classic Internet advice... can't spell it (not even close), never owned one, never shot one... but it's your best bet... because a bunch of other guys, who can't spell it, don't own it and haven't shot it said so... on the internet...

Anschutz "is" a quality gun... I can spell it, own it, shoot it... so is the Ruger 77/22, Cooper Jackson Squirrel, Sako Quad and CZ 452 Lux/Varmint/FS... spelled correctly, owned and shot.

OP... on your budget, you can't go wrong with a CZ 452/455 Lux or American with a Leupold VX-2 4-12 or 6-18... on the used market, you will be close to your budget and have a fine rifle... a "keeper."

The "axe" is; you are constantly shooting your face off about things you have no experience with... regurgitating the experiences of others (read on the internet) is one thing... but expounding as though you are an expert, and even arguing with those that do have "real world" experience is just too much...

Case in point;

"Dlask barrels are too heavy..." (said with a whiney inflection)

OR

"Canada Customs confiscated my prohibited magazines that I tried to sneak across the border... and now I'm going after them in an "imaginary" appeal case that keeps getting pushed back because, well, it's "imaginary..." but I will let you know when I get all 10+ mags banned for all you other Canadian shooters...."

Something like that...
 
In response to OPs question, I have a Savage TRR which is as accurate to 50yrds as my CZ, it is heavier but for bench rest shooting I like it better. If I was going to be walkin the bush the CZ would go with me. Or my Cooey 60;)
 
Couldn't be happier with my 452 Lux for precision... The Yo-Dave trigger kit is a definite option, but that would be up to you. I did it, but am not 100% sold on it - it did make the trigger lighter and crisper, but I never had a problem with the trigger to begin with.

I'm also fortunate to have semi-regular use of a relative's old Remington 513T Matchmaster, which, although I only shoot it in the field and have never really sat down to do some serious bench time with it, I suspect would be just as accurate, and perhaps even edge out the CZ.

The only reason I mention it, is because there are some old heavy barrel match grade Remingtons, Winchesters, etc., floating around out there that you can often get for very reasonable prices. For some reason, a lot of guys up here don't give some of those 50's amd 60's American .22 match rifles the credit they deserve. They're coveted south of the border, but can go for half as much up here.
