Am looking to replace the FAST stock on my XCR-L with the Dlask or NEA adaptor, an M4 style buffer tube, and a new buttstock. Will be used at the range and for coyote hunting so don't need a quick folder and find the FAST stock sometimes unlocks if you pull the rifle down into your shoulder instead of up. Primary use will be shooting offhand and off a shooting stick. Have a bolt action 223 thats a tack driver so don't expect my xcr to fill this role but want to maximize accuracy within the limits of the rifle.

Any recommendations/experience? Find the rifle well balanced now so want something of a similar weight to keep it from being nose heavy. Solid lockup, comfortable for cheekweld and reasonable price are priorities.

Have looked at the Magpul PRS, UBR, and CTR amongst others. What have you got and what do you recommend? Any thoughts on these recoil reducing buffer tubes like the one from Vltor? Are they just a gimmick or do they make any difference?
 
I'm using a CRT stock, I find it excellent. I also use a 3/4 cheek riser as my scope mount is a 1 inch high mount, that allows me to clear the BUIS. You can remove the BUIS and go with lower mount , thereby eliminating the cheek riser. As for recoil, I didn't realize there was any , with the xcr-l .223 end. :) 53 g vax works well in mine.
 
I'm running the Dlask adapter with a magpul CTR. And I also have a cheek riser, can't remember but I'm pretty sure it's 0.5" only. Perfect with a vortex scope in an ADM recon mount.
 
I tried the PRS stock, but found it made the LOP too long, and I'm 6'3". Finally found one of the old skeleton stocks from The early RA, and that's what I use now

There must be recoil - otherwise there wouldn't be a thousand muzzlebreaks on the market for 223, right :) More a question of stock shape, and perceived recoil really. Have fired some rifles that are unexpectedly uncomfortable given their weight and caliber solely due to stock shape. The buffer tube recoil reduction seems like a gimmick to me, but if I have to buy a buffer tube anyway... If it works it might find its way onto my xcr-m

My scope mount was a 1 inch rise aero precision , the 3/4 worked perfect for this. The mount on eatredmeat's rifle looks lower , therefore a lower Cheek riser. You kinda have to match the riser with the mount. Regards to brakes, I thought you mostly see flash hiders on Black rifles (.223). So that's what I got. I had a brake on a su16 and it was the loudest thing ever. I've now got a s&j linear comp and it's nice and quiet.( I don't need to worry about earmuffs if hunting. I do wear hearing protection while at the range( shooting a few hundred in a day). I think the only benefit of a brake as opposed to a flash hider , would be muzzle lift.? I found quick multiple follow up shots a bit better with the brake ( especially when using magnification.)

You're right - most of the stock black rifles I've seen in 223 usually come with a flash hider, not a muzzle brake. Not a big fan of louder, personally, haven't fired a rifle yet that I thought 'geez this things too quiet to even be any fun', but I've been at the range with some of those guys :p If it was legal here, I'd definitely want to get a suppressor or two. Anyhow, back to reality. Advantage of a muzzlebrake on a rifle of this caliber does seem to be mostly for keeping the barrel on target during rapid fire. Good to hear you're happy with the linear comp, have the Dlask one on my SR-22 but who can tell if it's really quieter on a 22, maybe I'll move it over today...

Thanks for the link to the Aero precision mount - looks sweet - will have to buy one when Saskatoon Gunworks has them back in stock.

The nice thing about the ctr is the secondary lock. There is no wobble at all like other buttstocks. I have the 3/4 riser on mine it puts the top of the riser parallel to the top rail. Im confused by your post about the buffer tube and recoil? The buffer and spring do nothing for a xcr rifle there is nothing to buffer lol

Ahh... crap. That is a completely obvious point that didn't even occur to me somehow... Must have had some defective coffee this morning:confused:
 
Good thing Zeuce pointed out my mistake before I ordered a buffer and recoil spring. Never owned/dissassembled an AR, only XCR's.

I'm planning to order a Dlask adaptor, mil spec buffer tube, Magpul CTR (mil spec sized), and CTR 3/4" riser. Anything there I don't need, or anything I do need that I haven't mentioned before I make a mistake that costs me money?
