Chest rig for a lady 3 gunner

As others have said: belts over rigs makes for a much better day.

And trooper class is awesome. The US guys have a ton of extra rules for trooper that are a ton of fun. No limit on the number of guns you bring, but you can't accept parts, gear, ammo etc from other shooters. Only water.

Pretty sure Lethbridge does this too, and maybe WRAS & CHAS? But maybe things are different in BC!

It makes me feel bad actually. The Swiss Arms could be a great competition rifle, and the Vz family would be a stellar starting point, but when they go up against against STANAG mags those guns are no longer competitive. But the satisfaction of avoiding those extra reloads means I wouldn't give up my beowulfs anytime soon.

Ok they are allowing up to 10 which allows LAR. Strange. That is not "usual" though. Like I said all IPSC and 3 GN I have shot allow Beowulf as do all the outlaw matches including Galt that I am shooting in two weeks. Team Hoser allows them too. I really don't think you should use the word usually though.

I have yet to hear of a match where Beowulf mags put you into Open. Maybe at some weird little outlaw matches that decide to be different, but general practice seems to be that 3gun matches in Canada are indifferent towards them. Granted, I haven't been everywhere, but Ontario and NB are both Beowulf friendly.

Have yet to see a match where that puts you in open. Granted it is up to the md of each match and could be a possibliility but definitely wouldn't say "usually".

As for the OP, if your wife already has a ipsc belt, and she is just getting into 3gun, have you consider buying a couple caddies and ar mag pouches and attaching them to the belt with tmms belt attachments? You can get 6 shell single load caddies like choate or California comp for $30/ea and I think blade tech ar mag pouches are around $30/ea. not sure what the pricing on the tmms attachments are but it would allow you to quickly and easily remove them for when she goes to an ipsc match.

The good thing about the tmms attachments is that you don't have to remove your belt to rearrange, remove or add your gear like if you were to just have tech loks.
 
To the OP this is my 3 Gun belt set up. It's a common configuration that is proven in competition. Except for the AR mags inserted backwards in this pic. I learned bullets forward good for pistol but bullets rear for rifle allows much better mag changes.

Team Hoser doesn't split hairs on what mags can or cannot be use because in the overall scheme of things.... It doesn't seem to matter.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record...or these days a corrupt mp3 file, it doesn't matter what kind of mags you use if they're not 100% reliable.
Also, The few extra rounds you have don't give any advantage when you don't know when to change 'em during a CoF.
I've seen a guy using pinned 5 round Pmags shoot a CoF where when he wasn't shooting or when he was moving he'd change mags... Next fella using his Beowolf's just kept shooting until he ran dry.. Then stood there squeezing the hell outta his trigger wondering why no more bang bang?
Then when he finally realizes he's empty the struggle to change mags begins. Once the empty mag is out and the fresh one in there that loud "click" as the hammer falls and nothing happens... Again, a pregnant pause as the shooter comes to terms with having not chambered a round...
Anyway.... It's the guy with the pinned 5 rounders who wins because he 1. planned his CoF and 2. learned himself how/when to change mags.

As far as the box fed shotguns go and "open".... Here in Canada I've never seen one that actually functioned reliably. The poor guys who use 'em spend more time dickin' around with 'em than shooting. Maybe it's a case of "cool gear no practice", but they're the slowest gun on the range.

Well yeah I agree but that same guy will beat himself if he plans the stage with a 15 round mag instead of a 5 round mag if they are both reliable. At least most stages anyway.

The learning curve was not to short stroke it.

A guy here locally rocks a MKA 1919 semiauto boxfed (the one that looks like an AR) and he does very well. In fact dominates since we don't have different classes in the couple I shoot at. My other buddy has the Grizzly box fed pump and it is a jamomatic. I think it is a matter of getting the right one, working the mags and practicing.
