Tell me about 9.3x74R

Sabatti may be a good deal , if you get a good one, and there are some out there. There is a new importer in the US, but, the price went up, and the cheap blowouts Cabelas had are gone. Apparently there is a fella who will re-regulate them now, if you get a bad one. Tradexx may have been talking about the Sabatti when I was dealing with him a few years back, but, I got the impression, he was talking about Chapuis also having regulation issues. So, I didn't bother with Chapuis, either. Have to say they are a nice looking gun for the loot, and they blow the doors off Sabatti and the rest under 10.000.00 with the wood they put on them.

I have a Merkle 240 SXS 9.3x74R/20 gauge, and it Ain't fancy, but the insides are amazing in machining and small details. Don't judge a gun before you shoot it!
Another point make sure you specify bullet weight before you order your double, and pay the money to have the factory scope mount fitted at the factory, by the time you find a qualified Smith and pay for the parts, it is much cheaper to have it done at the Factory, Believe Me😣
The 9.3 can do anything a 375 can do here in NOrth America.
I would recommend having your double regulated for the 286-300 grain bullets. My double is regulated for 232gr Vulcan bullets, and there a very few bullets available in this weight!!
Great calibre for a single or double !

I have a chapuis in 9.3x74r. I looked at and handled several doubles before choosing and to me the chapuis is the clear winner in the price range. Mine is very well regulated and in fact is not very picky about the load. It's regulated with factory Norma 285gr oryx and I have played around a bit with several powders and load levels and was shocked with how well it shoots. I had done lots of reading about how to get doubles to regulate and was expecting a lot more trouble.

If you can find a place (I went south of the border) to handle and look at several makes and models next to each other it helps a lot.

With one of my custom rifles in shipping limbo, I might hold off on a double rifle until I know what my financial situation will be. With the feeback I've received so far on this thread, it sounds like 9.3x74R is a real winner (and Hoyt doesn't like my taste in guns) :)

I too am interested in acquiring a double rifle, hopefully sooner rather than later. I don't want to say how many keyboards I have ruined drooling over Ardent's Merkel in the EE but I have also been looking into Chapuis (not finding any $2500 ones on the U.S. sites currently). There is however a Krieghoff in 9.3 for sale on gunbroker if I remember correctly.

The 9.3x74r is a good chambering, more than adequate for anything we have in NA, as well as meeting the requirements in many countries in Africa. Sounds like a win-win to me.

If you can find one for $2500 buy it! Mine was more than twice that, and I am very happy with it. $2500 is the cost of a production bolt rifle and decent glass.

In a double rifle, would you recommend this calibre as a strong 'all-rounder' for medium to heavy (bear) game?
(and I don't give a sh*t what wiki has to say)

I have a double 9.3 x 74r , 286 grains x 2 = Hammer of THOR ! pretty much a 375 H&H flanged .
There are numerous Good bullets available so you have choices.
ENJOY
what make double?

I have been looking at different ones in this caliber so anything good or bad you have to say would be helpful

I am seriously looking at Chapuis. My research so far has lead me to believe they're an excellent balance of build quality and price. Their wood is second to none and the test targets I've seen are tight! I am also 90% set on 9.3x74R.

I saw a two barrel Chapuis set in 7X65R and 20 gauge... that would be a pretty useful set in 95% of situations...

If I had it to do over, I would get a set if shotgun barrels forsure. You can send the rifle back and have them added - but what a gong show that would be.

I agree... if you have a nice firearm, it lets you put it to good use more often.
