Shorten PAL Approval Times

. Also they have the mandatory cooldown period of 28 days, they won't even touch it for that long which probably is what is happening is the letter sits in a box for 28 days from day of receiving it.

Yes they can not approve your lic. in under 28 days. They could issue it on day 29. All of the paper work and checks could be completed in that time. I understand service levels and it sounds like either they are not even close to meeting theirs or its a lot longer than it needs to be. And again like I said I would have gladly paid more to have it completed in a month and I'm sure others would too.

I called them up today, given that my application is not online yet. According to Miramachi, they have a big backlog it now takes 5 weeks before the applications are even showing up online. Then the average processing time from the time they received the application is 2-3 months.

I find it interesting that their backlog seems to have started about a month after the War Memorial shooting here in Ottawa. I think it motivated some who were procrastinating.

Application was received in Mirimachi on January 20th (two weeks and three days ago) and still hasn't appeared online. Ugh.

I gave the office a friendly call just to see what the time frame was, he said that January 20th would be the processing date of the application, but that "We won't open the envelope for four-five weeks from when it was received." (Those exact words). He was friendly though, at least. Told me to check online at the end of February or beginning of March.

I'm on the exact time line as you . Mine was also received on the 20th . It shall be interesting to see and compare the progress of our applications . Are you going for rpal or just pal ?? I'm geting rpal

Nope it's a legislated cooling off period for submitting a PAL application. Bill C-17 talks about it originally. It's been around since 1991.

I think you are misunderstanding my posts. There is a a legistaltive 28 day period prior to approving a PAL. This has nothing to do with when it shows up online. It also does not apply to RPAL upgrades. It could show up online a day after they receive your application. It could show up 4 months after they receive your application. The point is there is a 28 day minimum before PAL approval with a 45 day approval estimate but this has NOTHING to do with when it shows up online.

looking at other people's timelines I can say that a) 28 days after envelope received in miramichi your case appears online. b) 45 days from date an envelope hits miramichi your case most likely should be processed and license issued.
this corresponds to many my friend's timelines and now we just deal either with some enormous tsunami of apps they cant proceed with, or, say, something happened with CFOs that office processes papers as expected but CFOs are unable to approve them <- based on timelines some people get their licensed issued right after references were interviewed, but now they say it takes few days to ... scan the picture? yeah yeah.

For reference...mine was received by them jan 8, 15 and showed up online jan 29. I called and spoke to a very nice lady who confirmed I could fax my exam results in on the 30th and kindly gave me the number. The hardest part so far has been finding a device that could still fax :)

That is true it's only for new applications but after talking with people when checking on my application even they said the exact same thing it says in the bill I linked to stating that from the day they receive the application it actually goes and sits for 28 days before they begin to process the application. But this is only what I've read from bills regarding the firearms act andemployees that work there..

Guy on the same page of this thread had his show up online 21 days after they received it. This is when they got around to opening his envolope, nothing really to do with a waiting period. Even though a license can not be issued prior to the 28 days, it can still be processed in this time and be issued on day 29. It just doesnt usually happen this quickly Currently lots of guys are in the 60+ days of waiting, seems like more recent applicants are getting things moving a little quicker as they clear the backlog.

Just wait until you apply for an ATT. Buddy has been waiting almost 2 months.
Well I called back Friday after being told to wait a week...but this time told two weeks....lol - to be honest the person clearly just didn't know the answer to timeline. Im going to call every week on Friday till its done now.

So today I hopped in the car, went to Al Simmons gun shop in Hamilton for the first time - had a great experience with Adam there - and left as the brand new owner of a Sig P226 in 9mm, now sat in their gunsafe waiting for me to take registration. Nice selection of firearms in there too..lots of variety, and lots of ammo inc .22lr

I can now look at a cellphone picture of her everyday until the licence is approved. lol. receipt sure looks awesome in my empty gun safe too.....:)

yeah its a process alright lol....
presume you mean for his long term ATT to get to range etc. - Gunshop told me they usually get short term ATT in place within few days.

I could have weeks to wait yet on the licence anyway lol
Thats what i meant. Nice to have the gun just cant take it anywhere
