I've recently had some changes done to my 375's that I thought I'd share...

The intent was to have a pair of 375's with similar handling characteristics for regular use and rough use. Neither was intended to be fancy. The most important things to me being reliability and fast handling/shouldering. They both come up quick and on target. The point of balance is right at the action screw. The synthetic stock is a 550 magnum in an MPI stock cut to 23" and the other is a brno 602 shaved to octagon barrel in its original stock. Again, they are just intended to be used hard. I'm not sure how I feel about the octagon 25.5" barrel yet but time will tell. Both are glass bedded. I consider them still to be works in progress and final finish will happen after I've confirmed the handling through lots of shooting. Please accept my apology for the crappy photo's

My 602 looks similar to your wood stocked one, mine built by Trevor Proctor in England about 1982.
It has a .376 bored barrel with a 9.2" twist made by Rich Karnes of Arizona.
Made at the suggestion of Bill Steigers of Bitteroot Bonded Core Bullets to shoot his heavy bullets and it does so very well..
 
How about lining them up, side by side with the triggers parallel, barrels pointed in the same direction and taking some pics of the whole guns and closer shot of the actions... it would inspire more feeback...

P.S - will you be scoping them both? With what?

I'LL take some better comparison shots tomorrow with daylight. I will shoot them with the express sights mostly but the ziess diavari 1.5-6x42 heavy tapered no.4 style reticle with warne quick detach is available to either if required.

Does yours have a swing safety or the reverse factory one? I'll be changing to an Ed Lapour safety soon...
 
Some of the more subtle changes I had done:

- rear sights cut to a shallow V
- bolt handles straightened
- barrel band sling mounts
- cross bolts
- wooden stock re-shaped to a Rigby feel

The Mpi butt stock is a bit longer still as I can always cut more off later
 
Awesome! Your rifles are gonna be great hunting rifles but with class!
I love the old school express sights and the octagon barrel! Reminds me of the old Mauser's.
 
Direct. They were were great to deal with. If I would order again I would order the stock finished and bedded to their in house action though. I ordered this one unfinished and it was really open in the action area requiring a two stage bed.
It would be easier to make minor adjustments and skim bed if required.
 
Nice work, esp the makeover on the walnut stock.

I'd have the MPI rifle cut back to 20". It would fit well in that short forend and improve handling.
 
Ya, I thought 23" was a good place to start. It may end up shorter though. It balances perfect as is due to a bronze weight in the wrist. In 20 yrs it may end up a 20" 458 Lott.

For loads I haven't clocked the two side by side but hope to this week. I have been loading varget and 4064 with 260 noslers and also shooting federal factory 300's.
I think I'll be leaning towards the heaviest bullets for the main diet. Likely woodleighs.
 
I'm shooting 260NABs over RL15 with great results. Was thinking of trying the 300's but my 260's shoot so well i thought why switch. I'm only shooting moose with it.

Is there much of a difference in recoil between the 260's and 300's?
 
The 260nab is great. I can't get r15 easily but am happy enough with the varget. I use it for many rifles and it's reliable. I'm hoping to take these for Cape buffalo once maybe this fall. That's the only reason to go heavier for me.
 
As promised, some better side by side shots and also some showing size and center of balance compared to a double 470ne

In 20 yrs it may end up a 20" 458 Lott.

If you go 458...the Lott will be wasted on a 20" bbl , 458 wm would do.
Like the look of the 602 , bet it shoulders & points natural .
What is your double?
 
Ya, you're likely right about that. It feels nice at 23", that's likely enough tube for a lott.

The double is a heym 88b 470
