Approximately 125,000 ZF-41's were made, out of roughly 14 million K98k's. Less than one percent.

Two K98k zf41's. The one with the sling is the ar42 code, the other without the sling is the ar43 code.
The scope with the sunshades is made by cag and marked Z.F. 41/1 and the mount has bevelled rollers.
The scope without sunshades is marked cxn and the mount has flat rollers. (Last Picture)
The scope can is marked jvb and has a serial number.
The sling is 1942 dated and maker marked.
Notice the transition from flat to cupped buttplate from 1942 to 1943.

Nice! I'm curious what the field of view looks like through those scopes. Looks like you'd really have to squint to get a sight picture?

Another interesting fact about the zf41 k98k.

Approximately 125,000 ZF-41's were made, out of roughly 14 million K98k's. Less than one percent.

I think they likely diverted a lot of resources to the k43 scopes and mounts. Their goal was similar to modern army's, each soldier made better with an optical sight.

From what I have been able to glean these were not to be issued as a dedicated sniper rifle, but rather as a designated marksman rifle at the platoon or company level.
