Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

Buckmastr,
What serial range is your "glossy" 1640? Anything stamped on the barrel, like "Imperial"? Adjustbable trigger? Jeweled bolt?

290### serial number with "Imperial" on the barrel, no jeweling or adjustable trigger. Any idea on the year of manufacture? Thanks Baribal

It was made in 1964. That's an early "7000" a.k.a. Imperial "Monte-Carlo" Lightweight.
The early ones like yours didn't have the "Tradewinds/HVA/Timney" trigger and jeweled bolt.
Nice rifle!

p.s. if you want, you can send me your S/N by MP so I enter them in the HVA rifles database

That's a nice rifle you got there. It started as a 1651 and had a (quality) stock swap somewhere in it's life. The claw mount and the scope are of very good quality.

Well, about the Fairfox, it does not really belongs to this thread. It is based on the 1900, but with some modifications over the original design. It was made by EBO (Elliniki Viomichania Oplon - the Greek Defense Industry) from 1982 to end of the '80s. The action (and the stock, too) is the basis of the Greece's own sniper rifle, the Kefefs.
About 10 000 rifles were exported, mostly to Scandinavia (the reason why I give that explanation here), under two chamberings, 6.5X55 and .30-06. There were two names for this rifle; Fairfox 2000 and Classic 2000.
It was based on the 1900 but uses an adapted trigger, different bolt head (3 lugs un "T" shape, 50 Deg. lift throw vs 2 opposed dovetails for the 1900) and an all steel bottom metal, with different bolt pattern. It also uses a Brewer type recoil lug (a.k.a. washer type) instead the integral one used on the 1900.
These are nice rifles, though, capable of superb accuracy.

I just got my new Husky from Tradex! I'm not all the way through the thread yet, but from what I've read, I'm pretty sure its a 1640. Serial number is 223###x, and I will try and get some pictures up in a bit.

Yes, A is the last character in the serial number. I can't take any pictures right now, so the ones i got from the dealer will have to do (probably nicer than the ones i can take anyway). This is also my first rifle larger than a .22, and i'm loving the feel of it so far, can't wait to get to the range.

also, could some one point me to a guide of how to take down the bolt, i'm unsure if it's different to others, and i'd rather not mess with something i don't know.

Thanks to Baribal for providing so much info in this thread, never would have been able to find this out on my own.

The bolt is disassembled the same as a M/98 Mauser.
I can't say from these pics but the model will be either 1600 Std (if barrel is 520mm - 20.47") or 1640 Std (if barrel is 600mm - 23.622").

SHELL SHUCKER.......Not sure if this is your first Husqvarna but I'm willing to bet it won't be your last!!Great looking rifle and they handle so nicely,I'm a latecomer to these rifles but they have rapidly become my favourites, just love them.

My three Husqvarnas

top: '53 648 in 8x57
middle '40 146 in 9.3x57
bottom '40 146 on 9.3x57

The top two are not modified in anyway. Completely stock and a fresh canvas for my projects. The bottom has had the magazine/feeding path modified

The 648 is getting a Jaeger side mount (which I have and now in the process of finding a scope and a competent gunsmith) Dakota Arms M70 style 3-positon safety to come later. Trigger yet to be decided. Stock will need some work: Re-finish, cross-bolts, bedding, barrel floating, re-enforced grip and forearm.

I will re-chamber the two 146s to 9.3x62. The middle 146 is in tip-top shape, stock needs some work but no cracks. The bolt is beautifully broken in and head-space is extremely tight. The 6-groove barrel is near mint but, needs a subtle re-crowning. For this gun I'm wanting a Canada's top 9.3x62 gunsmith :)... recommendations? Also, I'm wanting to get the bolt handle modified exactly like the 640. Side mount of some kind (English Claw mount would been keen) and a Satterlee Arms safety...

Oi... This is going to cost some money.

Just a baby collection but these things keep multiplying.

1. A Husqvarna 46 in 9.357
2. My first love and a trade ex special. A 648 in 8mm.
3. A close cousin, Carl Gustaf trapper in 3006.
4. A Husqvarna 1950 in 270.
5. My go to gun. A Husqvarna 9000 in 270.
6. And the last but not the least. A Husqvarna ffv 9000 in 308. this one came by way of a fantastic gun nut.

Shell Shucker - What's that chambered in? Nice work, looks good. I'm going to be doing a 1640 stock here soon.

Thanks, mine is 9.3x57 & the bore/chamber are in A-1 shape. I'll be using Bullet Barn 280 gr. cast boolits in 'er. I'll be bedding the action next & install either a Timney or Huber trigger to finish the job.

bjmurata: This rifle is only my second Husqvarna (First one was a 9000 in .270 in the late 70's) and I wish I'd grabbed one of these 46's a few years back. Love the look and feel of these buggers.:)

As a sidenote, the FFV-HVA and CG rifles were not called "9000" or "8000", as this was a Tradewinds thing.

The "8000" and '9000" all are in the 350 ### through 397 ### serial range.

All the 500 ### through 520 ### range are "1900" either "Standard" or "Monte Carlo". The "Monte Carlo" series included;
- MC "Standard" - no rosewood fore end, just a plain MC walnut stock
- MC "Special" - in various configuration, but with rosewood tip, sometimes with high gloss finish and engraved TP/FP and jeweled bolt (but usually not).
- MC "Lyx" - rosewood tip with with engraved FP/TG and jeweled bolt
- MC "Trofé" - rosewood tip highly figured french walnut stock with a high gloss finish, without sights, jeweled bolt and engraved FP/TG

There was also a model "Continental" which later became "Swede"

The later, so 620 ### to 655 ### range are either Grade I, Grade II, Grade III or "Swede".
