I have now spent quite some time hunting out of various models of the Mercedes G Wagon 4x4. Their ability off road is exceptional and their reliability is extraordinary. Being a "low Tech" diesel, once they are running you can basically pull out the battery and they will still run forever. You can even bump start them without a battery. No electrical problems for long term ownership. The diesel will do 25+ miles per gallon so they also have great range.

They are built bullet proof as far as running gear and I have never seen one break down in the field, unlike Land Rovers and Mitsibushis. This is very re-assuring when one is a LONG ways from civilization.

Anyone know where there is a good supply of diesel G wagons in Canada, most here and in the U.S. seem to be gas, which get terrible gas mileage. Also, if someone brought a bunch in from Germany do you think there would be much interest in them here, or am I one of their few fans. Look forward to others' experiences with this hunting wagon.

Mechanical diesel, as long as the fuel selionid is open all ya need And lockers all around. I assume you meaning like a 280 gwagon and not the newer 500 series. I was looking at one.

If you take out the battery would the fuel solenoid not drop? Or did you rig up a wire to hold it open?

I don't know why, but the the only civvie gwagons I seel rolling around town are lowered, or have the AMG package and are usually driven by the biggest d-bags imported from from the PRC.

The only time I ever see one with any dirt on it is if it came in OD green from the factory.

I missed my opportunity to grab a diesel one last year and I'm kicking myself still today!

That being said, there's nothing wrong with that AMG 500+ hp G55 as posted above. Sure it's not a 4x4 for the bush but damn it's ###y ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When I got a brand new one from Germany issued to me, I was scared even tho its the army to scratch it. Put the first 1200km on it. Yeah didnt take long before I had it stuck.

If looking for a woods car, why not look at hummer H3, of course not as good as a diesel but the H3 base models are going pretty cheap. Awd and I loved mine. I had an H3 alpha (full options and a v8 instead of crappy 5cyl). Put mine in a ton of mud, snow, water up to the hood and worked super good. I upgraded to an H2, and can tell you for off road H3 was waaaaaay better.

Yes I drive a hummer and yes my licence plate is COMPNS8

This was one I saw on Kijiji.

If I could really get one for 4K landed I would be on it like a fat kid on Candy. Very often those real low price, to good to be true, Kijiji ads are pure scams. I called on a real well priced Bentley once and a few other cars over the years. ALL of them were scams.

I am seriously thinking of bringing in one from Germany or some other European location with left hand drive. May bring in a diesel Mercedes sedan as an everyday driver with it.Those Japanese and English imported right hand drives are fine in the bush but are a son of a gun to drive in heavy city traffic.

I'm not sure of this engine platform; but the older Mercedes diesels, from the sedans and such?
The same as the engines that were in farm implements!
Acquaintance had one for travelling around working 'Patch, I asked him if he was crazy...yeah, like a fox. Every small podunk town in Southern Sask had engine components, starters and such...cheap too.

Gotta love it when parts are standardized!
