I see you can get a m305 and a shorter m305. Also a short m305 socom with a removable muzzle brake. What else are you cgners sporting.

Please forgive the noob question but what constitutes a "battle rifle"?
Are the criterias 1. Used by a country's military 2. Must be .30cal 3. Semi auto?
So a G3 and FAL would be considered battle rifles? ( I know they are prohib)
Would a modern SA rifle like a RFB, AR-10, XCR-M be considered a battle rifle?

I got an M305 tanker and a .303B LE 1mk4... Granted my M305 tanker getup is not complete till later this year and thus has never been fired...

The only rifle that is non-restricted and on the Canadian market that I would consider to be a true Battle Rifle (depending on definition) is the SG542.

Yes on criteria 1 and 2. No on criteria 3... MANY are FA too (m14, FAL, G3)

Common examples are FAL, G3, FN49, Sig 542, MAS49, M14, CETME, SCAR would be the most recent.

AR10 is a maybe, RFB and XCR-M would be a no based on criteria 1.. They're more commonly aconsidered black rifles as they're more contemporary designs.

Modern ones still kicking around would include the XCR-M and the FAMAS one that is popular. Both wildly overpriced, but nice guns nonetheless.

To me a rifle has to have a military history of some sort to be a military/battle rifle. Hence I do not feel that rifles like the XCR qualify as military and/or battle rifles, at least the M305 can trace it's lineage to a true military rifle. The SG542 is a military rifle made by the same company and in the same factory as is used to supply military customers.

If you do some digging on the history of the M14s/M305, China did intend for these rifles to be used as a battle rifle.
Smith Enterprise rifles have seen "battle" as well.

My opinion of a battle rifle is a gun that was designed to be adopted for military use or have already been militarized. Examples such as lee enfield, sks, ar15, m14, Mauser, tavor m1 Gerand plus a whole lot more I can't think of right now. Something like the kel tec RFB and Robinson XCR I don't consider battle rifles. Black rifles yes, battle rifles no.

Some people think a battle rifle has to be a "full sized" rifle caliber. I think the term is thrown around in too many different contexts.

But just get an SVT-40 and bob is your uncle lol. Or a FAL :( those are the true "battle rifle" because, awesome.

No, that's part of the definition of "Battle Rifle" - Full powered cartridge.

223/5.56 and 7.62x39 rifles are eliminated - they're by definition intermediate cartridges.

I have my SVT-40 currently setup as a MBR/DMR, and as a low cost solution, it kinda works - to a point, but has some serious drawbacks.

  • While my rifle only cost $200, those days are gone... They're $350 and up now, and climbing.
  • Spare magazines are hard to come by, and the aftermarket ones need significant fitting, and are expensive.
  • Accuracy: You spin the wheel, you take your chances. These are old rifles that got dragged through the mud on the Eastern Front. Some are good, some... Notsogood.
  • Scoping: That's a whole bag of tricks right there.
  • Aftermarket parts/stocks: Custom make your own, and buy a couple spare rifles for spare parts.

So....

I'm probably going to move toward the M14 platform within the next year or so. You just have so many options/aftermarket parts you can use, so many ways you can take it, so much tribal knowledge on how to tweak it and work it out there. For a civvy MBR/DMR platform, you add all that up, and it's hard to beat.

And, not like I don't throw this pic up every other day, here's my current SVT-40 gussied up as an MBR/DMR:
