my personnel feeling on the first post is this , take the 30-06 case , blow it out , and neck up to 9.3x62 .... that leaves no question as to which case is the better of the 2 .

Point is, it comes down to the shooter, his/her preference and the limitations of the chosen cartridge.
Factory 308 IN CANADA can normally be found in 147/150 grs, 165/168 Grs, 173 Grs (though, all that m118 match ammo is drying up fast) and 180 grs. It is a toss up if it is harder to find M118 vs. old boxes of factory 200 grs 308 win or even 55 grs Accelerators. Handloading 308, you can go as low as 100 grs and bring it up to 200 grs with out issue, and I have heard of guys loading 209s, 220s and 250s though, my understanding about these loads is they are more of "thumpers".
Factory 30-06 can be found as low as 125 grs and go up to 220 grs. Gone are the 55 grs accelerators and m72 match ammo. Handloading from 100 grs right up to 250 grs.
Either way you look at it, I don't want to stand at 5 feet or 5000 feet and get hit with any of them! It really smarts.

Oh my, the lumber on both of your rifles is top notch. The both look like circassian walnut, and being a wood worker, my eye went straight to the stocks. Love the look, but sadly, they just don`t fit in my collection. Beautiful rifles though.

As does Ardent. A 'few' steps above items in my 'harem'. And, the same holds true for field experiences. Very nice guys, and thanks for sharing.
If we except Africa ( i am shopping for a Merkel or equivalant 2 barrels monster rifle because as a firearms lover i need one... Period),
anywere else i would choose one of my pet 308 and have the job done proprely... My Scout Steyr 308 is unbeaten to this day...

I recently did some chrono tests with 180 gr. Factory Winchester Power Points in 30:06 and 308...Factory information lists the 30:06 at approx 100 fps faster...NOW.....I shot all 30:06 from a Rem Semi Rifle...I shot all 308 Win ammo from a Win Model 70 Bolt action. My chrono found muzzle velocities to be ALMOST identical...THE SEMI EATS VELOCITY....Maybe we should be talking FIXED action, vs. Semi Auto. FYI I don't use Any Semis....I reload ALL my own hunting and target ammo....and I use all bolt and single shot rifles. THE 308 IS VERY EFFICIENT POWDER TO VELOCITY. Respectfully Jim

Hey now, everyone knows that it's when you neck the '06 up to .358 it acheives perfection. Save the 9.3's for fixing 8mm Mauser brass....
I can remember owning only two .308 rifles...one was a Sako Forester that wouldn't feed properly and had some slight pitting in the bore (though I think I shot three deer with it one season). The other was a Kimber Montana that wouldn't hit the side of a barn with factory ammo. I sold both of them. So that proves .308 is no good. I've owned dozens of 30-06 rifles. The most accurate were a Steyr-Mannlicher and a Ruger. The Steyr was a lucky rifle too. I shot big bear and big deer with it. I never shot a thing with the Ruger. They were both too heavy so I sold them...I still have a couple of lightweight HVA 30-06 rifles somewhere at the back of a safe. Shot some moose with them (my all-purpose 30-06 hunting load was 180 grain Nosler partitions at an honest 2700 fps). So that scientifically proves 30-06 is better than .308.

Did you not dis the cartridge the op posted about and supported another. Some of us and I have been hunting and shooting for near 60 years now. And find the 308 and the 06 to be more than adequate for most every animal in this great country of ours. If you feel it does not have the pop you need then get one or build one that blows them up. Either way they are DRT.
Most of my rifles are 308, only because I always wind up being the "one who loans". I bring an extra rifle of three when I go hunting, and those extras are all 308s shooting factory ammo.
*My* rifle was until recently a 270, but I recently switched to a 2-gun "battery" (ugh, I said battery), a 6.5x55 bolt, and a 300WM Semi. I met mr. Bear in the woods while deer hunting last year, and did not feel like the top of the food chain with the 270. The BAR in 300 makes me hairier and more manly. Morale booster.
For me, if you've got a 308, you should skip the 30-06, and get something really big and different.

I've spent almost 10 years in the black rifle forum, and while it is as you say, I find this one to be pure comedy.
Not much experience on the former but you're right on the money on the later
Some of the regs here take themselves pretty seriously the best way to bring out their true colours is a simple basic question like this topic that has nothing to do with how they roll and like flies in they come in droves. .. lmao- Status
